vauxhall omega 2.2 dti fault code p1220
« on: 11 December 2011, 20:33:36 »

Hi i have a vauxhall omega 2.2 dti 52 plate 112000 miles on clock with full service history witch i am having a problem with, I have had codes read and it was coming up with egr p0400 and po1220 critical malfunction 1, I had a new egr valve put on and also had the manifold cleaned and butterflies this solved the egr valve fault code and runs a little better but the p1220 still remains, I then went ahead and had a new fuel filter and added some diesel magic still same problem, When i first start the car from cold it revs up to about 4000 rpm and smokes alot the smoke is a light blue color after about 2 seconds the eml comes on and it will not rev past 2000 rpm when it has warmed up the smoke clears i have had all vac pipes checked and there fine also, I then had codes read again and came up with p1220 timing ran on separate fuel supply, suspect pump, timing or valve, I dont really know where to go from here i cannot afford a new pump as it is worth more than the car either can i afford a re con unit i have heard it could be the edc but who knows any more info or anything i could check, ps also had a new cat fitted many thanks thanks in advance

I have seen it cause two codes on different occasions, the first was a definative crank sensor code, the other was the P1220 code you have.

I had the edc taken off yesterday to get tested but i popped the cover off the thing tonight just to have a quick look but everything looked okay in there nothing broke in there that is visible anyway, Would anything be visible if it was broken would it before i do decide to get it tested cause if it was i may aswell get it put back in place

Update edc put back on after being tested and test coming back okay so went ahead and changed the crank sensor just to see but still the same, once warmed up smoke clears and car idles fine just wont rev past 2k, I think have done everything i can with it now and can not afford to spend anymore money on it, it has had a new alternator this year and cat and i have just had a new egr valve and fuel filter, Just going to stick it in the autotrader now as spares or repairs someone out there might have better luck with it than me hopefully i can fetch £500 for it

Does it idle alright when cold ?

blue smoke is burning oil ?

does it burn any oil ?

poor starting can be a failing lift pump in the tank

assuming fuel filter is not blocked and the system is bled properly
and of course thyat no vac pipes are split loose, damaged/trapped
because this engine is so sensitive to vac problems(i think it could be a vac  problem)
try unplugging the maf sensor,
often they dont throw a code and go faulty leading to no rev

Best way is to fit a hand priming tool and crack the pipes of the injectors, pump the priming tool until fuel flows out of the pipes then nip the nuts back up.

Or, tow the damn thing for a few miles!

Incidently, what spec is your DTi?
