Title: Welland Steam & Country Rally 2012
Post by: Seth on 10 March 2012, 00:35:56
Look no further than http://www.wellandsteamrally.co.uk/ for a fantastic short break in the shadow of the beautiful Malvern Hills at our 48th annual event.

Campers are free to arrive on our campsite from 9am on Wednesday 25 July, and stay-over free of charge on the night of Sunday 29 July after the show. The campsite must be vacated by noon on Monday 30 July.

For block bookings, generously discounted camping rates are available on the advertised prices on a 'per unit' basis, and include unlimited admission to the showground.

Each year sees around 1000 camping units on-site, and although we can't supply electric hook-ups, we have mains water, chemical toilet disposal tanks, portaloos, rubbish skips, a large disabled camping area, as well as a campsite shop and 24-hour security.
There's also a Farmers Market and caterers galore on the showground itself.

The event will be sign-posted from Jct 1 and Jct 2 of the M50 motorway.

Why not join our 15000 visitors?
......... with great company and around 1000 working exhibits!

A bit of a ropy U-tube slide show of last year, but it will give you an idea of the show :y

Following a packed Annual General Meeting earlier this week, I can report that preparations are now well-advanced for our forthcoming 48th annual event.

For myself and Simon (dad1uk), the highlight of the evening was the awarding of Honorary Junior Membership of the Ross-on-Wye Steam Engine Society Ltd to Simon's grandson Liam for his enthusiastic assistance at last year's rally:

Here's the young lad in action assisting us in safely marshalling the 200-strong Historic Commercials contingent to/from the arena.

Sincerely Master Kniveton, many thanks for all your help - 'tis much appreciated here!

It's good to have a youngster on the books. A few more are needed!

Here's our 8 year-old grandson Morgan, 'assisting' Gramps unloading our quad-bike on the preceding Sunday of the 2011 Rally.

And here's our founding leader and Chairman for many years, the late Dave Prout:

Known as "D.A." to us 'old sweats' he always encouraged such enthusiastic youngsters into the fold.
He'd often tell me: "Gotta catch 'em young, boy" and he was the visionary driving-force of our Society. That led to the purchasing of well over 100 acres of Worcestershire countryside, which became the permanent home of the event.

Thanks as always for your encouraging comments Den! ;)

With just seven weeks to go, things are looking exceedingly good for our 48th annual rally.
Most exhibitors classes are full, the public campsite is aaalmost full, so all we need now is to be blessed with some nice weather.

Just to whet your appetite, here's a few photos that I took at the 2007 event:

A couple of Reads wreckers make their way to the arena each afternoon ................

The Public Campsite's now absolutely choc-a-bloc, and no further camping applications will be accepted.

All exhibition sections are also full, so henceforth, it's strictly 'Day Visitors' only.

I certainly echo your comments D1 - especially those about the weather, as a wee bit of sunshine makes all the difference. :y

Unfortunately the Committee has regretfully decided to pospone the Steam Rally until September.

The statement reads......
"Welland Steam Rally has been postponed due to waterlogged fields.
The rally will now be held on 21st, 22nd and 23rd September 2012."

Hope it has not messed anyones plans up, maybe you can make the new dates easier than the original ones in July.
It is still a very good day out and with 2011 prices held a very reasonable day out with something for all the family!!

2012 Daily Admission Prices
Admission prices held from 2011.
Adult £10.00
Children & OAPs £8.00
Children under 11  Free
Payment on the gate is by CASH only. We are unable to accept payment by Card or Cheque.
Gates open 9.30am daily and close at 7.00pm

At least the Rally has not fell by the wayside due to the weather as so many of the events have this year!
