Urgent help requested :(
« on: 15 September 2014, 17:51:02 »

Hi all,

Anyone in the Oxfordshire area please?

Did some work on the engine yesterday and some how I've managed to damage the thread on the fuel pipe nut that attaches to the fuel rail  >:( >:(

I'm needing to get home Wednesday afternoon so could really do with this sorting by tomorrow if possible?

Anyone free or give me ideas to fix it please?

TIA :y

I don't think I have a tap anywhere near big enough, and from memory, a tap wouldn't get in there too well. Sorry.

You can buy thread files to clean up damaged threads. I have one, marketed by Drapers, for cleaning up damaged threads, both internal and external. I recommend getting one, and, if possible, a similar nut and bolt. Then file away on the damaged thread until it will engage.

Ooh that's tricky.

I guess the whole fuel line needs to come off...?  Unless it will clean up somehow? :-\

Did I see some plastic flat blade screws in the fuel line clips under the car when fitting lpg lines? Might not be as drastic as it sounds if so...?

Depending where you are in Oxfordshire, Toolmaster in Cowley Road and that hardware store in nearby Holloway who's name escapes me usually have a reasonable selection of tools for those "oh shit" moments.

Sounds like an option, thanks for that :y

Is that a big job Chris? Not that I have a spare fuel line anyway, lol

I'm not local to the area, just working. I'm in Benson near Wallingford.

Gonna have a look on the net and see what is where in a minute. Cheers for the heads up :y

Just had another look now I've chilled out a bit.

It looks like it's the very start of the thread that looks damaged. Fuel rail end looks intact  :-\

On the picture of the tool file in my erlier post, the lond middle section piles external threads, and the  short bits on the ends clean up internal threads. There should be one there to fit your thread. All you need do is place the nut on the right file and rotate it a bit.  Good luck!

Toolmaster, a few hundred yards away is 01865 712152

All sorted today. Small file and gently following the thread working outwards worked.

Reconnected the pipe and went for a drive with no issues, so happy days.

Thanks all for your kind advice and assistance :y
