Get one of these off ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/no-99-VW-VOLKSWAGEN-GOLF-POLO-WIPER-RELAY-357-955-531-/220640021113?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item335f2b8a79

worked a treat for me.

Hi UKTigger,

Q: If it worked for you, is your Miggy the Facelift with NO variable resistor [wipe delay adjustment] ?

What colour was the relay you removed? :-/
Hey Philrich,
Thanks for the responce.
The relay was a Mid Brown plastic colour [kinda old cardboard colour] about 30mm tall with 5 blade terminations.
Embossed diagram on the relay casing showed a relay with a resistor across the windings?   :-/
The Haynes diagrams all show the layout with the 'variable resistor' but this bears no resembalance to my Miggy......so, what is the new wiring in the car ?  [ok, I get the 'resistor in the relay can' design].
Cheers fella,
Lokking forward to any replys,

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Wiper Delay Function Problem
« on: 05 October 2010, 11:05:24 »
 Hi Guy's,
My '02 Facelift wipers have never had a delayed wipe function on the front (rear ok) so, as the weather has turned, gotta be sorted, right?
To start, briefed myself on the two Oof modifications available and got started.
Pulled out a relay (which looked way to small) from location K8, ordered VW relay  part number '357 955 531' actually received part number '3BO 955 531' from VW (part number superceded).
Plugged relay in and NOTHING, D'oh! Both speed settings still work.
Ah! check the rear wipe delay still works and pinch that relay (a known good unit) place it in the front position [K8] NOTHING, wipers will not even 'park' when switched to the 'delayed wipe option.'
I shorted socket numbers 2 & 5 [53E & 31B] wipers 'Park' ok.
I shorted socket numbers 2 & 8 [53E & 15] wipers 'Park' ok.
Basic wiring appears to be ok, run out of inspiration.
Recommendations anyone  ?
Regards,
Ding A Ling. >:(

Fuse 15 blowing problem fixed.

I searched everywhere for a circuit diagram and eventually downloaded one from (BLANK???) It took a while to work out how it worked but ended up being an extremely powerful piece of kit.

It turned out, after a lot of searching and a lot of luck to be something to do with under the drivers seat. Incidentally, it blew when going round a left hand corner or leaning to the right on the seat.
Hey Snowy........where the 'blank' did you get the helpful Wiring Diagram?  and please keep us informed about your final conclusions because I still have this fault on mine, Grrrrr!
Rgds,   Ding a Ling      :(

I have said before that its never gone whilst driving but thinking back it has gone when I've slowed/stopped in a car park and in a queue at the Seven bridge, brake applied and only moving very slowly. Never blown when at speed. Usually just replace the fuse and away you go.
Now that could be a clue!!!  I have noticed that mine never blows when I'm in the car alone (coz I drive a little faster) only when I'm with the 'Trouble 'n Strife' and gotta drive 'sensibily' (no jokes about Power 2 Weight Ratio being outside of the approved envelope, please). Can't be the seat heating pads because we never use them. [He ponders] anybody chipping in ?

Come on fella's this problem has been 'around for ever' and we have the best people to 'crack it,' I've driven to Barcellona (2000+ miles in high temps) NO failure! and I've blown FOUR 35amp fuses in a day doing 60miles, D'oh!
I've changed (what I believe to be) "the Sounder" [Rubic's Cube speaker device found in Engine Bay cavity above drivers feet but under plastic heater air intake grill adjacent to wiper mech's]. I've also disconnected the A/C condenser fan (inside the rad adjacent to the Engine not the two outer one's).
There must be loads of people out there suffering from this and living on a diet of YELLOW FUSES, Grrrrrrrrrrr..........
This is an open challenge to shine for someone with technical digits ?

My 2006 (face lift) Estate has a Radio Processor that will not behave !!! It just "searches" all the time and never 'locks' onto any Radio Station (unless you are parked under the Transmitter Mast). If you stick with a Pre-Tuned station then it will stay locked a little longer but not much. I figure that the Radio has a fault in the RF feed [eg: Aerial, Co-Ax Cable or RF Amp].
*) Has any one got recommendations as to where to start Fault Finding and How ?
*) Where does the Co-Ax Cable route and where is the inline RF Amp ?
*) Has any one had an Aerial failure, coz I've noticed that the Aerial is 'bent forwards' by the Rear Wing when you open the rear estate door.
Any one seen Dave DND ? please
Cheers, Ding a Ling                      :-?
