General Car Chat / Tyres
« on: 22 May 2014, 11:04:42 »
VW dealer has just phoned to say that Dunlop Germany have just delivered 1 of the 2 Dunlop Sport 01  tyres needed/ordered - car has been with them since Monday!!

Dealer is now saying that he will fit, at no extra charge, 2 Continentals which they claim are more expensive than the Dunlop Sport 01. I have no idea whether Continentals are a better brand or whether it is just a ploy to get me to have something different to what I ordered. I have the Dunlop Sport SP01 on front and the miles I have had from the Dunlop Tyres has been amazing.

Ideas?

As far as I can make out this is pretty useless. Any kind of wall renders it just the same as earlier versions.

Door technology on Phaeton.

Mine is in today as dealer managed to get a spec in paint on front door when I had my M6 altercation last November.

Due to family issues did not leave north east Manchester until 8.45pm last night. At 11 15 I am at J10 on M4 to come off for Reading - not. Slip road closed. No signage that I saw on M4 when I joined at J8/9. Result is that it took 45 mins for last 10 miles of my journey.

There are some GPX files for use with Memory Map and Garmin stuff that I want. They are in RAR format when downloaded.

Is there any free software which will enable me to un RAR them. Is WinRAR any good if I buy it at £27?

General Car Chat / Car shows yesterday?
« on: 13 April 2014, 08:26:16 »
On way up M40 earlyish yesterday passed quite a few Leyland models - Austin 1800, also the Wolseley that looks like that, Austin A40, plus was passed by a Rover Vitesse on a B plate which was doing over 100mph easy.

Anyone know of any shows on in Midlands possibly?

General Discussion Area / Electricity Meters
« on: 13 April 2014, 08:18:42 »
My aunt has been in hospital for a few weeks so I have been managing her stuff.

When we found her ill a few weeks ago she was sat in a freezing house. When we arrived we turned the fire on but when we left I said to Mrs we should just drive around block quickly and see what happens. Sure enough more or less as soon as we had gone fire had been turned off. Thought it was just her illness/confusion and next day she was admitted to hospital where she is doing really well now. Gas CH was turned off also.

However maybe I have dropped on part of reasoning.

She had a new electric meter fitted 18 months and going through bills last night she has gone from a steady 1500kwh per annum to well over 3500kwh on new meter. So direct debit from £20 per month or so to £60+ .

Wonder if it is old meter that was faulty or new one. Will tackle Eon as soon as they open tomorrow.

Also just discovered she is paying £750 per annum to British Gas in service charges i.e not including gas. Next job.

Sister in law and son have been visiting us from Truro using First Great Western to Reading.

On way up from Truro despite having reserved seats the seat numbers they had were occupied by people who also had reservations for same seats - there were other spaces so it got sorted.

On way back tonight 7.33pm from Reading to Truro it was 30 mins late and heaving. Same thing again with duplicated seat reservations but this time no other seats.

Mrs has just been on to FGW customer services but not a lot to be done until sister in law gets hold of guard which ain't going to happen for a while.

Does this nonsense happen a lot on FGW?

Anyone come across Police Community Clubs of Great Britain?

Very mixed feedback on internet. They do produce a magazine but how your funds help is another matter.

Other organisations pop up claiming to be representing/ aligned with Met Police. I have referred it to Met Police yesterday for comment.

There is a truckers van at the Mottram end of the M67 called Big Baps. I can recommend the bacon sandwiches (baps) but the name is clearly derived from the person serving. Planning to visit again when Mrs not watching over.

I mentioned my aunt was taken into hospital last week - she is still there and ?I am sorting out her car.

Body repair after she hit some bollards has been done but failed mot on a sill problem which will be fixed Monday. Bottom line she has insisted on spending £1200 on a car that is worth £600 say. Ok that is her wish but I noted that she had also paid £330 for a clutch and slave cylinder last November. Discussing the car with Evans Halshaw apparently she has a new clutch about every 2 years.

Very difficult to influence things with single minded person when you live 220 miles away.

I feel a bit annoyed with myself that I was not in tune with the situation relying on what she said over phone.
