Sorry guys need some more help .

Blower suddenly started working tonight on way home from work, but cant alter the fan speed so am now convinced its the resistor at fault.

Problem now is fan wont stop !!!..switched car off ,keys out and fan is still running.
Tried pulling the fuse as indicated in manual ..being # 4..no luck..tried # 15 as that said coolant fan..still wont stop.

Short of removing earth from battery how can I stop it ? :(

Keep pulling fuses from the little box above the battery until it stops. Or pop the negative lead off the battery  :y

Yes have pulled the negative battery lead for tonight. :y

Need to go to Ramsgate in the morning so ideally would like to get it shut off other than by battery as need to meet a site agent at 11.00 and wont look to go with my head under the bonnet to get the car started afterwards. ::)

So there is a fuse in the large triangular box that controls the fan then ?

Not specifically iirc, but it will kill the feed :y

Currently 2,300 miles from a wiring diagram :D although Haynes should provide enough guidance ;)

Fault gets stranger by the minute !!

Reconnected battery negative this morning and fan isn't running nor has it been all day. ::)

I assuming with this intermittent fault most likely either relay sticking open/closed or resistor under glove box.
To be sure and able to isolate possible fault with relay can anybody( unlike me who can read an electrical circuit diagram  :D) kindly help identify what relay /colour and location is the most likely to switch the blower fan on/off

Thanks guys :y

If I understood you correctly, in one of its modes the fan was running even after you switched the ignition off? That implies that the relay, or whatever, has found a permanent live feed from somewhere, because I would expect the fan to be "live with ignition" only, regardless of whether it is fed via a ralay or not.

Ron,I understand that the blower fan has a constant supply and is regulated by several relays and the speed is altered by the large resistor(hedgehog)

My symptoms were.

No fan running at any speed for 2 days.
Last night fan started running but I weas unable to alter its speed and it wouldnt stop even with ignition off..so only option appeared to be disconnect battery.
Today battery reconnected and fan isnt running again....yet !!

Intend replacing the resitor as that seems to be most likely but would like to establish if a relay is also/or on its own at fault

Understood. Relays are easier to replace than hedgehogs - and cheaper!

It doesn't have a relay iirc...

That's to say that the hedgehog controls the fan, but the speed from 0-5 is triggered by the controls.

Main power feed for the blower is obviously fused though ;)

Must have a constant feed as what would cause it to run with ignition off and key removed..and assume given loading is must run through some relay or tother.

Just wanted to be sure I haven't got a dodgy relay giving current and then not.

All fixed and working as designed again :y

After wrestling in the passenger footwell to get resistor module out and new one back in this afternoon I can report for £18-35 off Amazon part fitted and working .

Thanks for help and patience with me guys :y ;D
