Last time I was on a bus must have ben about 25 years ago. I suddenly felt like I was back in my schooldays and had a great urge to tear up the seats and smash the windows.  :-[ ;D
Our school bus often drove straight to the cop shop instead of taking us to school.  ::) ;D

I used to sit quietly at the back reading my bible. :)

I had to walk to all three schools I went to.

I went on a bus here in Spain about three years ago. About £3 for 40 miles none stop. Air con, quiet and it had free wifi.

Not sure I would want to do it regularly.

Given the choice of walking 20 miles or catching a bus, the walk wins easily. :y :y :y Now trains are a completely different matter and my 30% off coffin dodger pass gets used regularly. :y :y :y

I got my bus pass last month and, as I haven't been on one for a loooooong time, I thought I'd try it today. I mean...it's for nowt...and I do live in Yorkshire. Never again, not while I've got a hole in my arse.

After the attraction and excitement of the life of a fare dodging youngster, being fully legal with a bus pass must appear very boring. :P :P :P

I spent about 6 months attending Napier road secondary school in Gillingham in 1972. It was very boring. I was glad to get back to Belfast.  ;D

Obviously about the same age as me, where I left my secondary modern with seven good grade O Levels in 1973 & retook English, where I'm dyslexic  the following year to make it eight to complete the critical five core ones to make for all educational routes open. Worked hard from then onwards as my nan was right 'you get out of life what you put in'. :y :y :y

Where you sadly have major skeletal problems from the route of hard labour that is a sad price you have paid, but you must be very proud as a dad for not only raising great children but also being able to steer them into much easier physically careers, but also ones that are much more financially rewarding, well done to you. :y :y :y

My parents were more liberal. They allowed me to cycle.

My first 2 schools were only 5 miles away, but walking meant an extremely early start, as used to take best part of 2 hours (no footpaths, hard walking on the verges)

See it all the time and in the winter all standing at the bus stop freezing their nuts off, if a bus did come along 2 got on 40 left behind ??? ???. If you was one of the lucky ones to get on find a seat quick before the bus driver  did the best wheelie ever and you was on the floor. or if you would be standing they quite often  practice their emergency stop throwing you to the front of the bus. They also did 2 speeds formula 1 or sunday morning driver i always got the wrong one. Aint been on one for years but to shut the wife up got on one with her and im standing their with money in hand only to be told they stopped taking cash years ago and the driver looked at me like "what planet you from then" they are a pain and they are always guilty of jumping the lights /sitting in yellow boxes and they think they are a law unto themselves where i live they cause gridlock, no thanks im happy to sit in my Miggy  listening to rasdio 1 and feel sorry for those poor buggers at the bus stop who are doing it all over  again.

You lot are all rather uncharitable about the bus. I use them a lot particularly in London. It obviously depends on your route and whether or not you have a helpful timetable. You have to be a little laid back sometimes though.

The system in Glossop Derbyshire is good. Have used this as well combined with train to Manchester although I did encounter a yob refusing to buy a ticket.

The ones that cover the area of town where I live are pretty good. There's one every 10mins. so there's never really a problem of getting a seat as they're usually pretty near running empty apart from morning/afternoon school run times-there's no dedicated school buses as such like there used to be.I like others on here walked to all 3 schools I attended.

I worked in London for 18months and drove everywhere other than the office (Canary Wharf). Door to door any journey took no more than 15mins longer than public transport and I arrived fresh, air conditioned and having listened to my preferred choice of music, rather than being crammed next to an unwashed stranger having been treated to some antisocial w@nker’s choice of noise pollution. Then again, I’m picky like that  :P.
