I have always said that decent petrols make cars feel quicker.

My tests earlier in the year on BP whatever 99RON provided very quick 0-60s with LPG a bit slower.

Repeated the tests, checked everything, petrol slower than LPG.

Of course I had Tesco 97RON in it (bought on Julys 5p off)

Anyway this is Julys fuel so should soon be low enough to chuck some BP or Shell in.

i find bp's petrol,i know this sounds daft,but i seem to get more miles to the gallon from bp's petrol than cheaper supermarket fuel

Petrol does go off after a time.

I would hazard a guess that the additives added to the Tesco fuel will of gone on enough to cause the RON rating to drop.

I agree, it sometimes temps me to go to the cheaper Supermarket Petrol stations,  i dont know if its just

me  but i seem to get about 45 to 50 Miles more out of a full tank of fuel when i fill up at BP

It would appear that most supermarket petrol is very low RON (like sub 80) from Russia and Eastern Bloc, needing additives to get it up to spec....  ....not sure about the branded stuff.

if you look at the small print on certain tesco vouchers , when its mentioning petrol stations is says tesco/esso ,so is it branded in disguise?

No, it seems despite the rumours, tesco do not use esso.  However, Tesco Local are now the preferred 'shop' part of esso garages

Some Tesco stores have Tesco-branded petrol stations, while some (like the one next door to me) have Esso-branded filling stations... so the Esso-barned definitely provide Essio fuel , not sure what the Tesco-branded provide.

I fill-up with 97Ron, with preference to Texaco High-Octane (my engine seem to like this little-known fuel for some reason), BP Ultimate, and Shell V-Power, but I will also take any other 97RON e.g. Esso or Tesco 97.

I try to use V power as much as i can BUT some times i use Sainsb Super ( just up the Road). On a good run From Dry to Dry i can get 75-80 miles from £10 with V power which i think is good for a 3.2. This is a lot less around town.

Filled up with petrol in a Tesco in Bristol today. 95 RON for 92.9 - cheaper than it is down here.

Took a leisurely drive the 100 miles home and the MID is showing 38 MPG.  

OK. It was a leisurely drive too and all bar 15 miles or so was motorway / dual carriageway but I was impressed. It was still reading 40MPG when I came off the motorway
