Warning - Remove keys from ignition
« on: 26 July 2006, 07:09:38 »

I was approaching a petrol station yesterday when a BMW convertable roared into the traffic flow, with a distraught lady running after it.

The car overtook everything, with the oncomming traffic having to swerve out of it's path.

She must have left the keys in the ignition whilst she went to pay.

Moral..ALWAYS REVOVE THE KEY'S FROM THE IGNITION BEFORE FILLING WITH PETROL, AND ALWAYS LOCK YOUR CAR WHEN YOU GO TO PAY.

I agree...but this happened to be in a rural, select area of the country, well away from the normal YOBBO element...just proves you're not safe anywhere.

I don't quite understand why people do this!! You wouldn't go out for the day and leave your house keys in the door.

It doesn't take much. I even take my keys if I am leaving someone in the car and if I am with my daughter, I take her out of the car.

The thing is the Omega goes mad if you open the door with the key in position one which I hate so I take 'em out any way.

Its worse than just having lost the car,  the insurance company won't pay out if you left the keys in the car!

Last 2 times I renewed insurance, they were at pains to point this fact out! (tesco insurance for info).

Pikeys!

My mate lives in a sleepy little Hamlet just outside Henley-on-Thames. Every so often, they're subject to a load of break ins, pilfering and automotive theft. It's all apparently very opportunistic and remarkably enough, it all coincides around the times the gypsies are around.

I think the residents of more peaceful communities tend to lull themselves into a false sense of security as more often than not there's little or no crime. Easy pickings for a transient 'n'er do well'!!

Could be another option.......
Husband filled car with petrol while wife went to pay.
Then decided he'd had enuf of her crap navigating and decided to leg it while he had the chance.... ;D
