MOTs extended for 6 months
« on: 25 March 2020, 14:01:21 »

Great news! MOTs expiring after March 31st are valid for a further 6 months, to relieve Coronavirus pressures. Two of my cars' MOTs expire in April, including my beloved Omega, which is still roadworthy but will fail MOT on emissions due to a cracked exhaust manifold.

Not as she is going anywhere as Working from Home so all tucked up in Garage :y

Be safe all, and chin up.  :y

Together, and collectively, we can and will get there. :y

I may have been three hours behind in my announcement of the good news, but I have two cars due MOT in April and three in May, so I reckon I have the last laugh.

I read today in the papers about MOT extensions for cars. I'm beginning to feel sorry for the testers. Testers have told me that MOT testing is good business, £35 plus for 20 minutes work, steady stream of customers, whereas car repairing can be trickier to do at a profit. Suddenly their custom will dry up. Dennis Miller, local man I use, bought his business from Alan Margary's widow, has put in a new ramp, gas analyser, tyre changer, etc., suddenly finds he has no custom. I hope he survives.

Going to be a lot of the cars literally stuck in the gutter with broken springs/ ball joints.

I understand the "keep safe" advice, but if your car is due test and making a noise,  cancelling any repair work you had booked because of this extension is madness as ive experienced this week.

The perios of 6 months seems excessive too, unless they review this as time passes.

Test stations will have trouble clearing the backlog as everyone will leave it right to the end of the extention period.

Garages are allowed to be open for essential repairs so if your car is making horrible noises you can still take in.

Garages are open as you say and can still mot your car if you wish them too

People don't half rush in. My local garage is open and, while the staff are fit, is staying open. The six month extension is only for people who can't get to or find a garage......most can/will.

If your MOT place is turning a test around in 20 minutes, it won't be long before VOSA  pay him a visit......

It might only take 20 mins for the test, but the paper work might suggest otherwise  ;)

Recently, a garage relatively local to me had a 'surprise' visit by VOSA and the car logged on the MOT system at the time supposedly being tested was in fact at a different site owned by the same garage......
