sounds like it was just light surface rust ,
cam.in.head's "simulated the hone pattern by moving the paper up and down as rotating it."
the hone just "holds" the oil on the bores

Yes’s we used a bore Honer on a drill and it worked perfectly on my Evo you will have to clean your cylinders as you did for another month before it makes the bores even slightly bigger in my opinion👍 you’re fine, bolt it back together
