I've had several cars with a sunroof, including my omega. As you said, they are archaic. Useful in the days before air con, maybe, but a pretty useless way of cooling or ventilating a car.
Imagine sitting in a queue of traffic with all the fumes coming in. If you insist on the wind in your hair, buy a fully fledged convertible.

I concur. Also..... unless the driver happens to be a 'shortarse' lack of headroom can be a problem.

The one on the omega had a bit of a mind of its own (common problem I understand) and its days were numbered when it opened one evening and I came down next morning to a soaking wet drivers seat  >:(.

Since then I pulled the fuse and used it no further. That said, I doubt this is a general sunroof issue.

Are you talking about replacing the Jag m'lud, or the mighty signum?

The 'Mighty Signum ' is simply irreplaceable, Aaron. :y

Possible replacement for the other car.

I'm Aaron. He's Jimmy.

Off to Specsavers with you!  :P ;D

I never use mine, and see it as one of those design features from the bygone era of the 70/80s when everyone wanted a sunroof before the advent of widespread a/c. I remember when it was always stated that a Englishman's air con was a sunroof!

Yep, a useless feature unless your a/c blows up! ::) ::) ;)

Agreed, Lizzie. Spot on.

.......and a closed sunroof has the additional benefit of stopping nefarious ne'er do wells from peering down your cleavage when stationary in traffic. ;) :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

I had a sunroof on my 2.5cdx and on my e36 coupe, always used them, they are actually quieter than using the door windows.

I see loads of people with expensive motors that drive with the windows down, and I cant work out why theyd have the ac on with them down?

Never used mine on either Omega apart from seeing if they worked. IMHO they are just something that weakens the body shell, adds to the problems of worn seals, and provides another opportunity for the tinworm to attack the edges. AC is the way to go. :y

Always use the sunroof on both our Elites. Really miss it on the CD. The minute the sun is out, open goes the roof ;) :y

A ruddy great motor and a pane of glass, so a load of weight, up high above the centre of gravity, and a great big hole in the roof that is bound to leak eventually.

Horrible when the car is in motion and bound to attract rain and bird sh1t when it's parked.

Nope, not a good idea, IMHO.

As I've always said, if you don't like the roof, ditch the whole thing. ::)

I'm the same. Unless the temperature has reached the high twenties, and then it's time for the A/C.
A sunroof is the second main reason for insisting on an Elite: they didn't do a 3.0l CD

The big advantage to me is the extra light. A big consideration in tupperware land. We have just deleted it though from our next car list. Doubled the pool. The disad outweigh the ads.
