Omega 2.5TD glow plugs
« on: 09 October 2017, 06:15:33 »

Hi everyone,
my 2.5 TD needs new glow plugs before it gets cold.
Can anyone tell me if I need to remove the windshield wipers motor to get the intake manifold off?

regards Hans

The wiper arms need to come off, then the plastic scuttle at the bottom of the windscreen. the wiper assembly is held in place by 4 hexagon headed self tappers ..... be careful you don't scratch your wing as it comes out (assuming it's similar to a right hand drive car)

True.  :-[  I should have said, you don't need to remove the wiper motor, not " No I'm not going to tell you." :y

When removing the scuttle, the 90' plastic fixings are not captive, so if left in the scuttle as you remove it, they need little encouragement to ping all over the engine bay. Don't ask how I know this. :-[

I owned a TD for over 10yrs & never had to remove the scuttle to take off the intake manifold. only thing I would advise is stuff some rag or something between the starter motor & engine block so,s if you drop a nut it cant get lost behind that area. also I always used a rover stockist to buy the gaskets ,, found them a lot cheaper than vx or bmw

Pretty certain the scuttle can stay on.

Last glow plugs I did on my old TD was done in my lunch hour, and still had tie for a cuppa :)

So far I only have changed one of  two defective glow plugs - without touching the intake manifold.
Since I'm not driving much in winter I will wait and see....

in the ten years that I owned a td I only changed mine once & that was for peace of mind not a necessity. I did find the leak off pipes needed attention on  regular intervals. I always bought a 2mtrs length of tube & cut to size, making them a bit longer than needed so I could trim them once they started to leak at the ends
