Irritating problem with Ms Excel.
« on: 17 October 2017, 12:26:19 »

I am monitoring my blood pressure daily and compiling a table and chart in Excel for my GP.
All is well, except that after a computer restart, it is no longer possible to shift active cells in the chart by using the direction keys - left, right, up or down - to move on to adjacent cells to enter data: the chart moves bodcily instead.
I knmow it's only a trivial problem and I can move to adjacent cells using the mouse, but what have I done wrong?

Sounds like this could be bad for your blood pressure     ::)

What if you move them using KB short cuts, I use that most of the time rather than the mouse, bearing in mind your formula will also move but may not have be the formula for the correct cells.

ie, click / highlight cell to moved then Ctrl+X (move), then click or hightlight target cell Ctrl+V (paste)

Ron.

I suspect you have hit the Scroll Lock button. Somewhere on the keyboard near the Home, End, Delete keys and the number pad there should be a button for it, often abbreviated to ScrLk or similar. On a laptop keyboard you may need to use a function key to access it.

If you press that button it will toggle on and off this (annoying) feature.  :y

Thanks, Zirk, but all I want to do is to return to thne way it used to be before, i.e. shifting the active cell along to the adjacent one with the direction keys. I have no idea why it has changed to moving the table in its entirety now, but it certainly does raise my blood pressure, Mister Rog!  >:(

It's also a great tool for showing my GP my BP results so that he only wants to see me to take readings monthly rather than weekly, so sneer all you want but I like it!  :P ;D :y

Yep, of corse I can, then my GP would have to struggle to read my writing!
Also, more seriously, Excel can present the results in graphical form - easier to read and easier to show trend.
As all women know, we men are all visual creatures!  ;D

TB, why do you hate Excel so much - and, by implication, the people that use it?
I found it to be a great tool in my work as a college lecturer in timetabling (an intense juggling task!), totalling teaching hours termly/yearly across several individual classes (a balls-aching task, but essential if I wanted to get paid!) and so many other ways that reduced my stress level and workload.
Also, having fought hard and long to understand it and get it to do what I want it to do for me, it is now much easier and neater.
Plus, if I wanter more than one copy.....
