Title: Management light on
Post by: Shackeng on 18 April 2019, 19:07:59
In the 9 years I've owned the 3.2, I've never had the EM light on. Took it in with no light on for its MOT today, after giving it an Italian tune-up. It passed with one advisory, EM light on >:(. What did they do? WOT didn't bring it on for me. >:( >:( >:(

Probably left it idling whilst they had lunch...

If you are in the RWB area either before 12 tomorrow, or after 3 from Tuesday to Friday next week I can stick the code reader on for you, away in the tin tent otherwise :)

Ta, it will have to be next week. Thanks Nige, I'll be in touch. Meantime can someone PM me with a cheapo reader that will reset codes please? :y

Has anyone got a generic code reader that will reset codes they can recommend for an Omega 3.2? If so please PM me the name. :y
I am surprised that no-one has come up with a reason that may have brought the light on during the MOT. I am not a great fan of such coincidences. :-\

3.2 is OBD compliant, so any cheap device ought to do what you want. Easily doable for under £20.

Just off to do that. It can't have idled for long, it only took 20 minutes to do the MOT!

Pedal trick doesn't work for some reason. Spanner light remains on. IIRC I have used it in the past, but I may be confusing it with the TD. Paperclip doesn't appear any use as no connectors in 2 & 6 of OBD socket. :(

Is it the spanner light that is on, or the EML as in your first post?

Its the EML light on when running. Spanner light will not flash for pedal trick, stays on. :y

They do everything a dedicated OBD scantool does; they're just a bit fiddlier to use. That's OK if you don't use it very often, and it takes up very little space in the glovebox

think you have to upgrade the free app to torque pro (about £7 ) to reset abs etc but it will reset eml
I give them to the peasants* to use if their EML comes on ,so i can then know what the likely cause is before i travel / plug in my laptop

Title: Re: Management light on
Post by: TheBoy on 20 April 2019, 10:26:11
Either the spanner light or engine light will leave a code in the engine ECU on a 3.2.  The pedal trick *WILL* work.

Ensure throttle is absolutely fully down, and brake is down enough to activate both brake pedal switches.

And OBDII reader can read 3.2 engine (only). I personally use an Autel one, but others available.  Generally not a fan of the laptop/phone based ones, mostly because they are awkward/shite/limited.

the EML goes out on it's own if the fault is "not present" but stores the code for about 20 ignition cycles on most vauxhalls in my experience .

so if your light remains on when driving, i'd say you have a fault
no one local with a code reader ?

Its a chinky knock off. Will likely be OK, though might not last the warranty period.  Looks like that cant do live data.

I'd spend a little more on a genuine one from a real UK shop personally.

On the Omega, only the precat codes keep it illuminated. Others, the light goes out when fault fixed.

Most chinky ebay sellers claim item is UK, but the big fat customs sticker shows they talk 'dangle berries'.  But then everything on egay is 'dangle berries'.

I order no end of stuff from China, which tend to arrive in 10-14 days currently, as long as customs believe the customs label.  Obviously, I don't order much through egay.

In this case it probably is true that the scanner will be dispatched from the UK using the Royal Mail miss-sold 48hr parcel service, so more likely 3-4 days delivery.

The item probably is a genuine Autel, whoever they are. The problem will be if it is defective or otherwise doesn't work on your car. You'll find you have to post it back to China to get a refund. Where of course it will never arrive unless you send it via a traceable service at your expense. And the cost of that will make you conclude it's not worth returning.

I buy stuff all the time from ebay. But I try and make sure the listing explicitly states that there is a UK return address. I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole if there isn't.

IME, RM are pretty good, if its correctly stamped/paid.

I also suspect many egay sellers mark stuff dispatched ASAP partly to keep their Power Seller (whatever its called these days) valid, and also to stop items being cancelled due to it already being dispatch...   ...even when it isn't.

Yes I have had plenty of orders which have gone like that, and I haven't had many go badly wrong. I just find it amusing when I get a message from someone at 3am saying they have dispatched an order.
The bloke I order my wvo filter bags from is so quick I could almost believe he is stood outside the post office with my order ready to post, when he gets the order.
Worst experiences have been with that German company people recommend on here and the atrocious cp4l.
The only two companies I make a point of avoiding altogether.
