General Car Chat / Re: So what have you done to your car today?

Scrapped my Omega  :'(

Bumper and boot lid are all on the top.

I just want it looking tidy.

I’ll see what he says as the job he did on my metallic black lease car was exceptional  :y

Meanwhile, I’m hanging out here to see if parts in colour turn up within a couple of hours drive away.

Cheers

I’m thinking of asking a local smart repair guy to take a look at the panels. He did and truly first class job on a brand new lease car that was keyed all down the near side for under £300 last year for me.

What could I get away with to repair the peeling ? Rub down with wet n dry and new lacquer or would he have to prepare it and respray the panels ?

Such a dilemma. Car looks awful but runs so very, very well and everything works.

Thank you

Thanks for the reply Johnny but Lancashire is a bit far for me.

All of the above are suffering from terrible lacquer peel so looking for replacements will no peel or rust spots.
I know I’m asking a lot but at 157,000 and running sweetly I can’t afford to spray it and can’t bear to scrap it  :'(

Thank you

Mods, please lock. All sorted thanks to biggriffin  :y

To potentially widen my search and chances of finding one, does anyone know if any other Vauxhall model regulators will fit the Omega please ?

Forgot to mention my car is a saloon but I’m thinking the mechanism from an estate would be the same, wouldn’t it ?

Thanks

As per the title please. Mine was in for its MOT today (passed) but my mechanic said my window problem was a snapped cable.

He’s asked me to source a complete mechanism as he will take 20mins to swap them rather than new cable which will be upwards of 1.5 hours labour.

I can’t readily see one on eBay or on Omegasparesparts.

Thank you

General Discussion Area / Re: Hope we don't lose Boris

Boris has just come out of intensive care.

Great news for him and his family but also for the whole of the UK.
We need his leadership and ability to bang heads together because the last few days with Raab in charge seemed a bit rudderless. Mr R certainly doesn't ooze confidence like many great leaders do.
Sinak & Gove gave more polished performances.
Still, although we won't see Boris for a while, it's great news to hear he is well on the road to recovery.  :y

Original had four edge pieces: 2 sides 1 top 1 bottom, and two rubbers 1 sides AND top 1 bottom.

Later has two edge pieces: 1 sides AND top, 1 bottom and same rubbers as earlier.

Entire frame and rubbers must be fitted to the screen BEFORE the screen is placed on the car :y

Agreed. As I remember it, they referred to the GM metal tracking as the windscreen goalpost due to the rough shape of two sides and a top track.

Coupling the GM tracking with GM rubbers resulted in a satisfying click as the rubbers sank into the track.

Previous attempts with the original track and pattern rubbers led to the rubbers flying loose.

As discussed in a previous thread, Autoglass eventually fitted my screen along with new GM tracks and rubbers. Pattern rubbers just came loose.

Once I spoke to someone who was previously a fitter at the customer care place in Bedford, he knew exactly what I needed and ordered it all in via Vauxhall. He then booked a two man team to fit. They fitted a GM screen, tracks and rubbers. Very neat job. No mess, not a whisper of wind noise, no problem.

Omega General Help / Re: Latest exhaust replacement advice
« on: 01 April 2019, 21:32:56 »
I have a 2003 2.6 saloon, and the last back box I fitted was actually a 2.2 back box, which many suppliers list as the same part anyway as the 2.6, having a single exit pipe. Mine fitted perfectly, and the exit pipe was the correct longer  length, as some 2.5 boxes have shorter exit pipes which finish a little short of the bottom of the bumper cut out.
I also put a stainless end trim on it which neatly finished it off from an appearance point of view.

As I've got horse hair coming out of the back box, I was inclined to change it all from CATS back.
Is the entire 2.2 system the same as a 2.6 from the cats back please ?
