I've been looking for a replacement garage door control panel for a while 'cos ours is damaged but they don't seem to available any more. I've tried ebay & USebay & various internet searches with no luck.
There's a pic of the unit below, it's the button with "door" on it that's broken so I was wondering if I could wire in a seperate switch to save leaving a remote in the garage?
It looks like it's the two bottom connectors on the left & they look like they're low voltage, but I'm not sure.
Any ideas?

Hi Bo Bo,

The bottom left wires look like connections to the door button. Is this photo of the button itself or the door controller? Normally the button wiring is low voltage (I certainly hope so looking at that!) and a doorbell button will do the job nicely. Make sure you get one without a built-in light though as this can interfere with things.

If you can get a closer photo of both sides of that PCB I might be able to analyse it a bit further.

So whats actualy broken.........the switch, the plastic....

Looking at the ribbon cable going behind the PCB I suspect there is more to it than meets the eye.....

If your adding a new switch then you would need to wire across the sprung contact on the top right...

It's the door button switch that's broken.
It does press down onto the spring on the top right, I was hoping that wiring in a switch direct to the two contacts on the bottom left would bypass this & send the signal direct to the motor.

Ahh, now I understand. I think you've got 3 switches connected to a single pair of wires so presumably there's a resistor network or similar to allow the controller to distinguish between the buttons. Best to wire across the spring contacts on the RH side in that case. Where does the ribbon cable go?

I've had a closer look & I think I've sussed it.
The two connectors bottom left are for extra remote controls, the ribbon goes to the motor so I'll either have to wire up to the spring clip or into the ribbon itself which is probably the easier option.

I'd say a bell push across the bottom left terminals would do it in that case. You can then locate the button remotely if you want. Failing that can you have a look at the faulty unit and see what's broken? Looks like there's a proper push button on the PCB for the other two buttons but a crude contact strip for the main button. Might just be a case of cleaning up the contacts.

 For what it's worth, mine has an illuminated bell push next to the garage door entry from the house - the control unit is mounted on the ceiling.
