General Car Chat / Re: Where have all the manual Omegas gone?
« on: 06 April 2018, 18:39:12 »
My 2.5 TD elite estate was a manual, sadly no longer in my possession. Scrapped after an altercation with a road sign, earth bank and dry stone wall. Lovely box on that.

I do and the word on the street is the mounting of the motor inside the tailgate can be suspect. Mine is actually fine but according to other owners the bolts are into nylon bushings which split with age/use. Once they go the motor tilts slightly and the spindle is then out of alignment causing the rubbish clearing action.

Hope this helps

I made my own!
Charity shop £5 for a pair of black leather trousers or skirt or jacket.
Old gaiters off and unpick the stitches to get templates, cut new leather, sew up, fit, jobs a good un.
Took me about 20 mins to sew up each one, proper leather as well, none of that leatherette stuff!

General Discussion Area / Re: Tax DD
« on: 05 January 2018, 22:54:22 »
Now I'm not sure how this actually works,  but I 'un sorned' mine on Dec 22nd using the monthly DD system, got an email stating they would take double the amount on the 11th Jan, I presume to cover Dec and Jan, however I have sorned it again, yesterday as I am now away again for a few months.
Read the associated email and that stated the DD would be cancelled with effect from that day, so that means (if I have it correct) that I will not pay any VED for the short time I was on the road just about 14 days, although if pinged by the ANPR boys it would have shown as legal in all aspects..........
Or will I have a nice banking surprise on the 11th when they DD the full 2 months!!!???!!!

Omega General Help / Re: Omega A R25 Hydraulic or Cable
« on: 17 November 2017, 23:09:30 »
Yep, that is correct, the R25 from the Omega A (Carlton) was cable operated.
However along with the R28 there was also the hybrid R25/28 both of these were hydraulic. The hybrid R25/28 was used on the smaller 6 pot models the 2.6 12v.

I'm not entirely sure the R25 is hydraulic, thought it was the hybrid R25/28 or the R28 that were the hydraulic versions

Think the R25 was standard on the GSI 12v with the R25/28 going on the 2.6 versions and the R28 on the GSI 12v.

If the above is correct then I think the R25 is a cable operated, I might be wrong and stand to be corrected.

Omega General Help / Re: Tyre pressure caps.

Don't want to burst your bubble and apologies for not seeing this sooner so I could warn you.

I bought a set (2 in fact) for the wife's Zafira so she too could just have a walk round visual.
The first set allowed both rear tyres to deflate overnight, the second set only one front tyre, consequently binned both sets as I had no confidence in them.
I hope your experience of them is better than mine but at least you will be pre warned. I suggest once fitted that you keep a close eye for at least a couple of days, just in case.

All the best

Omega General Help / Re: Self leveling.

If you wanted to go the manual air route might I suggest looking for any of the larger engine Omega A estates.
My 2.6 CDXi has the same air assist shocks but the air lines route to a simple Schrader valve located in the boot floor. I normally keep 5 psi in the system which makes the back end (unloaded) the same height as any other Omega A estate.
I keep a measuring stick with that height marked and when I tow, or load up the boot I use that when putting air in (using a bicycle pump) until the same height is reached, however I have been told previously that I should never exceed 30psi as the bellows may just rupture.
I never put more than 15 psi even when I collected 0.5t of fire wood.

Might be of use to you.

Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / Re: Garage/lock up clear out.

Just to bring this back to peoples attention before the older stuff just gets binned due to lack of space.

Just make me an offer and I will consider it, would prefer to see the parts being used rather than discarded.

Nearly forgot, Witter Tow bar fitted just prior to car's demise.
Removed at breakers so that is for sale as well, never been used to tow, never got the chance!
Cost £350 to supply and fit, looking for £100 please.

Just a point of interest, as I no longer have a TD, but the GM OE water pump had a chocolate plastic impeller, a known failure issue. I replaced mine early with a metal impeller pump. :y

I'll have a quick look and make a note as to which impellor this has, thank you.

Jon

it's an FAI pump with a metal impellor part No WP3096  equivalent to QCP3095.
