General Discussion Area / Notre Dame

Watched a programme that i had recorded on BBC2 about the rebuild, which has a Macron deadline of being ready for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Would recommend anyone interested in old buildings/construction giving it a look. Very interesting and also presented by the lovely Lucy Worsley, who has a magnificent set of..... teeth.  :D

I see after years of making vast sums of money out of the National Lottery, they are making a legal challenge because they have lost the 'preferred applicant' status for the next licence to run it. Greedy sods. There is a lot of money to be made out of charities these days. Some of the CEO,s of the major ones pocket eye watering salaries.  >:(

General Car Chat / Number plates
« on: 03 September 2021, 18:05:35 »
Was reading the newsletter that i get from my insurance broker and saw this. Didn't realise that the rules regarding the plates comes into force this month, which tightens up the rules regarding spacing, fancy scripts and any other weird and wonderful things that people have on their plates. This is to make it easier for ANPR to read them. Must say that it.s about time. Could be a £1000 fine if you are deemed to have an illegal plate.  Anyone else aware of this?

Reading on the text service of the BBC that the price of West Texas Intermediate is a minus figure now. -$37. Worlds gone mad, they are having to pay people to take it away. :o

General Discussion Area / Odd feeling
« on: 26 March 2020, 19:46:54 »
Had a very strange thing happen this morning. Was doing my usual ablutions when a numbness went up my right arm into my shoulder then down my back as far as my waist. Thought, bugger, am i having a stroke or something like that. Phoned 111 and was told the wait for a call back was over 15 mins so phoned 999. Very impressed, they were here in a few minutes. Gave me an ECG and various other checks and concluded that i may have overdid the amount of gardening that i did yesterday and just a slight movement, (no pun intended  :D) resulted in a badly trapped nerve in the big muscle in the shoulder. Still have numbness in arm, shoulder and ribs but it's slowly easing thankfully. It could take some time to get back rights but was grateful to the ambulance crew and the NHS considering the shite that's going down at the moment.

General Discussion Area / T/V licence for over 75s
« on: 08 March 2020, 15:34:50 »
Our licence is SWMBOs name. Over the last few days i've had a few e-mails, addressed to me not her, saying there is something wrong with my direct debit and i haven't renewed my licence. It quotes the correct expiry date, so i sent an e-mail back explaining that the wife is the named licence holder. It seems the, according to my e-mail account that my replies are not getting through to the sender, which says it's the T/V licence authority.  In the meantime we have received a new licence which has an expiry date of 31st May, this year, also stating that we need to do nothing at the moment and they will be in touch at a later date to inform us what to do when the over 75 concession runs out on May 31st. So, i'm assuming these e-mails that i'm getting are a fisching scam. Has anyone else received anything similar?

General Discussion Area / Power cut this afternoon
« on: 09 February 2020, 22:51:46 »
Went down for a couple of hours, (daughters off for over six). On returning, all appliances came back on ok, except my hard drive/DVD player. Damn thing won,t power up at all. Have changed the fuse in the plug but no joy. It,s like me, getting on a bit  ;D. Could the outage have fried something inside on one of the boards?  Anyone with any ideas please.
