Mot Pass + Recommendation
« on: 17 June 2020, 10:41:28 »

Hi Guys, Took the motor to SOS in Huntingdon yesterday for some fettering, first up Mot, Passed with one advisory. Nsr front wheel bearing slight play. Then Serek and the team installed a new Cam belt kit, did a cracking job. So first off guys need recommendations where and what to buy for front bearing hubs, there a bewildering selection online, but £29 for a complete hub, I think not bearings must be made out of tin foil.. I will replace both though.
I also need a fan switch. Although it would be fair to say guys, this issue of the main fan not kicking in until gauge reaches 100+ even then it only appears to be Auxiliary fans that come to life has dogged me from day 1, I've kinda just learned to live with if. I.e. Let fans kick in cool everything down then switch off, which can be a right pain backside. Dr Serek had a look, basically he pulled the loom to the switch and carryed out the link test. Main fan on then all 3 working. I've done this in the past and even fitted a New Euro parts switch which made no difference at all, I even put back the original Vx as it seem to work better. I also installed a fused rocker switch into the cabin as a safety measure linking it to the switch loom albeit crudley. This has not been in use for some time but I'm going to reinstate it. This problem came with the motor 10 years ago and it's still there, the last owner had the car less than a year and sold it maybe like me got like me so p-----d off he got rid.. Serek said replace switch Delphi or Febi. I'll do that but again where and from whom the ones I'm looking at in the pics all seem to have a round terminal block not rectangular.
I really appreciate any input guys, I just want to get to bottom of problem and finally put it to bed  :y

Entwood replaced a wheel bearing with a pattern bearing ..... it failed a relatively short time later in French France while on holiday with his tin tent. Around the same time, I  bit the bullet & bought OE at around £100 but had no further problems  :)

Bearings come as a complete hub flange, not available separately.

There are two switches on the radiator. They are different.

£420 yesterday £200 for hubs + labour Ouch that stings. But to be fair I allow £500 in maintenance every year due to limited use around 3k miles.
Are both sensors temperature activated for instance high and low first low speed on main fan then high speed as temp rises particularly in traffic.  :y

Apologies the first figure of £420 inc Mot, Oil Service, parts, labour and Vat. Interestingly Serek says since easing of lock down parts prices have jump very significantly. No surprise, as always any excuse to hop the prices from the suppliers.

I replaced both fan switches when I had random town driving overheats. All cured now.

They are both still available from Vaux but are priced at IIRC £40 plus vat each  :o so got one from GSF and the other wasn’t available from anywhere other than supplier on eBay. I’ll try and find where I got it for you.

To add... this guy even called me to run through car specifics to make sure it was correct. Was very impressed 👍👍👍

Thanks for that buddy. Your absolutely right that top fan switch is very difficult to obtain other than Vx... May just have to bite the  :y
