well i dismantled the NCDC unit,   unjammed the cart,  fixed the ejection issue,  but discovered that some violent numpty neanderthal has been there before me, there's at least one broken pillar from something.....  can't see what....  not familiar enough with the insides of these to know where from,  tried to spot a snapped off pillar base , but failed,   (it fell out when i shook the unit to recover a worm gear cog, and a spring....    )

it's also missing a spring from the internal cage suspension (top left spring)

and the mess they've made of the removal tags is horrible,  no wonder they broke the facia  mountings ...

so while it now ejects the cart beautifully , it fails to read the CDs ,   sticking at "checking disk 4"

either because the transport is buggered, or the cart is buggered, or the laser is buggered.....

going to need an intact CDC3 (right unit?) to inspect and compare to see if i can resurrect this one.....  i'm pretty handy at electronics and instrumentation repairs....     (B.eng Electronics,  B.Sc Physics,  and nearly 30 years of building and fixing high tech professional audio equipment, and delicate musical instruments)

may well buy a complete replacement NCDC , just in case......    scrappers take note....

My 18 yr old daughter passed her test a week or so back, and her license arrived this morning...

she's living near Farnham,  working as a live in nanny....

and the family cars include, but are not limited to, at least  1 ferrari,  1 lambo, 1 porsche cayenne...  a grand voyager,  and she's being bought a new beetle.... as a run around...    but is already being let loose in the porsche...  (before she'd even passed her test i might add)

(they can afford the insurance.... indeed, they probably own the damn insurance company.....    )

so....   if you're around Alton,  Farnham, Binsted, Wheatley,  Kinsgley....    area...  on those country back roads....   take a little more care , and watch out for big black porsche cayennes....

you have been warned..... if she totals your miggy,   i'm sorry.... i did my best to warn you.....   i will cry as much as you do...    but i'm not bloody paying for it....

Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / NCDC 2013/5
« on: 23 October 2011, 20:38:40 »
 I have a CID coming....    ::)

thought i also had an NCDC coming with it, but it appears not.....     (yes i'm told the CID has been put in delivery mode )

now there's not much point in getting it fitted and tech2 paired to my unit,  since it's cartridge is jammed, and the facia likes popping off on it's own ....

so i need a working , non faceplate destroyed NCDC2013.

OR,   a fix on mine...

don't really mind either way.... but want a solution by the Wycombe meet,  on the 5th of November...  hopefully.....   hell maybe we could even do the fitting as part of the meet??   (if Jaime is going to come, and IF he's willing to bring Tech 2, and take my beer vouchers... )

anyone....???????

....

down to Hampshire and back (round the corner from Kev Wood as it happens) to drop my daughter off at work (she's a live in nanny , working for an obscenely rich family.....   )

came back "the back way" (Farnham-basingstoke - newbury-A34)  to give it a bit of a run on A roads with corners.... and lots of fast roundabouts    instead of boring motorways, and check it out on some of the iffy surfaces and bouncy bits on the A34 at speed....

very much improved....    still a little wandery here and there on some surfaces....  but a trip to WIM will be on the cards shortly...  see what they can do with her....    ride is hugely improved,  although still not quite up to my old elite when it had new suspension fitted...  but a huge improvement on the rocket propelled bouncy castle ride it was before.

reasonably happy.....

General Discussion Area / Forum graphics question
« on: 12 October 2011, 00:53:59 »
would it be impossibly impertinent if i asked/suggested that the number of PM's incoming is highlighted somehow??   i occasionally miss them as they come in if i'm not expecting one.....       just a little yellow highlight or something contrasting against the tasteful blue-grey would be really very helpful....

General Discussion Area / RIP Steve Jobs

Whatever your position on the existence of Apple,  respect is due to the man and he will be much missed i feel....     he'd earned a break, but helluva way to take it....

Farewell Mr Jobs,  thanks for the gizmos , entertainment, and the elegance and push you brought to the tech world in all your enterprises.

« on: 05 October 2011, 23:48:28 »
Passed it's MOT.

but left a rather huge Mv6 estate sized hole in my wallet as a result,.....  rather OUCH.....

(£500 ish labour,   + all new OE Shocks,  rear springs,  4 new tyres, wishbones, drop links, AR bushes, TR end, Licence plate light bulb, washer jet, and handbrake cable. )

rather sore in the wallet department....

but nice not to be driving a rocket powered bouncy castle any more....

Omega General Help / settings for 4 wheel alignment???
« on: 05 October 2011, 11:59:13 »
i'm vaguely aware that there are some non std specs for alignment , toe in and camber,  for older miggys.

my mv6 has 132k on her, and is having all new shocks, wishbones, drop links, AR bushes, and tyres fitted today....  the garage does 4 wheel laser alignment (a premium blackcircles fitting centre)

so...  what should i ask them to do ???

(£50 extra for 4 wheel laser alignment while doing the rest of the work  seems cheap)
