I think one wire is a data link to WOPR (War Operation Plan Response)
if triggered ,it launches the under bonnet nuclear warheads
burning your omega (and anything in the same postcode )to a crisp

something like that anyway  ;D
others will know more  :y
apparently it's best to remove the power sounder and post it to someone you don't like.    ;D

Power Sounders were/are part of a system designed to stop people stealing your omega. I would respectfully suggest that they are no longer necessary.  ;D

The power sounder has a data link to the alarm / central locking ECU in the Omega. I wouldn't rate the chances of an after market siren talking to it.

They can be cut open and the batteries replaced if they are not too far gone.

If you manage to get the Sounder open, I have a couple of unused batteries in a safe place somewhere which you are welcome to once I have found them! ;D ;D

There are several versions of the Omega power sounder, and serveral different battery options.

Some are filled to the hilt of potting compound, so not much hope of doing much with them. Some are open inside.  All have to be cut open (hacksaw along the seem).

New ones were around £60, but they will all be old stock now.

It pains me to agree with STEMO. It really does. But he's right, for once.

Apart from the discussion with your insurance company, are there any other downsides to removing the powersounder? Maybe the insurance company would recommend it was removed if they knew it could cause a fire?

Dont bother telling or talking to your Insurance about PS Removal (you bought the car like it, right). Dont bother trying to fit another OEM type. Dont bother buying a new one from VX. Dont bother trying to get inside of it. Dont bother replacing the Batteries. Dont bother about losing sleep over someones going to steal your Omega. Infact dont dont bother with any of it. Just remove it Bin it and worry about getting the car through its next MOT.

The power sounder on my car had been removed before I bought it. but the horn that sits next to it used to work when you opened the door with the key after you had locked it with the remote but now only the hazards flash?.

Horn has died as well.

It is very basic - the design probably hasn't changed since GM first started making them in the mid 1920s (at a guess)

If there is no sound from the alarm, replace the standard alarm horn. The powersounder was a vauxhall/uk exclusive and are not found on Opel cars. I have never seen one except on this forum. Alarm works very well without it. As i understand it the only purpose of the power sounder (except setting your car on fire) was to sound the alarm if main battery is disconnected. The bonnet switch will do that job just fine. Will be very hard to disconnect battery without first upsetting the bonnet switch.

Removed both of ours when we had our Omegas after reading on here the problems they can cause best in my opinion to simply do the same.
