General Car Chat / Re: Wishbones..................
« on: 08 September 2011, 20:17:12 »
I've just put cheapos on to get through MOT and kept the originals . DLK pointed out that the bushes were buggered after 106,000 miles.

Intend to Poly the front, GM bush for rear, but what about the balljoint ? Can that be replaced with a GM part for reasonable money ?

Many thanks

You certainly pay for the nice comfy seats and " free " coffee in the waiting room.......... £50 for the MOT.
Car passed, but used an independent garage this year. £34 for another pass and the guy let me have a good nosey under the car after he fitted 2 wishbones, 2 donuts and 2 rear springs.
In n Out are too expensive in my opinion.

I plan to keep my original VX wishbones when I change them for MOT.

I read about wheel balance issues with Poly bushes. What issues please ?

I plan to rebush the original wishbone. Does anyone here have the equipment and knowledge to press the bushes please ?

Think it will be cheap e bay ones just to get it through MOT.

Lazydocker ....... Which seller do you use, or do you just see what's on offer at replacement time ?

The rear bush on the wishbone ....... Do VX carry them as parts and does it need an engineering press to get it in ?

Aim to keep the OE arms that are on the car and have them bushed ( poly on front ) ready to be fitted in a few months and throw the cheap ones away.

Thanks for reading.

I believe they were both shot. I could only see the huge amount of play at the front as his pink overalls were dazzling me !!!

DLK examined my wishbones and they are shot ( OE, lasted 106,000 miles ) so no complaints.

I need to fit new before MOT and VX are wanting £420 a pair !

Lemforder takes a hammering on this thread, so what's the consensus please ? Do I buy a £50 pair and replace the front bush with Polys before fitting, or use the £50 pair as a service item and change anually ?
Are they a big job to change for a good mechanic ? An hours work to change a pair ?

Thanks for your anticipated advice.

General Car Chat / Re: Insurance renewal due!

Sandune,

I would stick with your current insurer. If that's for fully comp then you are doing really well, as I've seen some awful high prices quoted on here.

For some people it seems, the price that you have been quoted by your current insurer would be a bargain for third party fire and theft.

I accepted that there would be a small rise this year, but I'm paying a very reasonable price through Lloyds.

Up to you, but I'd stick !!

All the best.

Cheers for your replies gents.

Got the aftermarket parts at trade ( £12 for the pair ) and another local garage was happy to fit for £20 cash. Result.

The car was on the ramp for about 10 minutes.

Back to MOT tester for free re test and now got the passed MOT.

Folks,

Your advice please ......... how much should I be looking to pay to have the rear anti roll bar links on a Mark 1 Focus replaced ?

Told it's a fairly quick job once the car is up on the ramp and that the parts are fairly cheap.

Local garage however has quoted £91. Highwaymen !

Thank you

Have 5l of tyre shine that I blagged from a valeter a couple of years ago, but it only looks good for a day or so. Any tips please ?

Well done Martin.

Never lower your standards to that of the scumbags that hurled abuse at you.

Ignore them and go about you lawful business knowing that you are always a more mature and considerate driver than them.

Bionic,

Why don't you switch off your computer and go along to the BBC and present it yourself ?

While you are at it, you could maybe nip along to the Police station and run TOWARDS a bomb scene, riot etc while the public are running AWAY from it or get a Fireman's uniform on and run INTO a burning building. ( Both Public Sector jobs )
