Steering Box Price Sooo Funny
« on: 11 July 2007, 09:51:38 »

Phoned VX about Steering Box Part Numbers to see if they were the same through the range which they are apart from the elite with has variable effort.

So for a normal one for mine no Variable effort Vx wanted wait for it     644 + VAT so thats about  £756 I think and no thats not including getting it installed
Oh and they want your old one also and you dont get any money back for it
I actually Laughed at the guy and said i go to the scrapper for one but thanks for telling me they are the same through the range and the guy said no problems they are alittle expensive

Understatement of the year there I think!

I thought that the variable effort (or speed sensitive) steering was fitted to all V6 models and the 2.5TD models.

Sorry to hear of your woes with the steering by the way.

Hummm can anyone Verify that all V6's have a variable effort steering box as you just cant take it as 100% when someone in Vauxhall tells you something.

The Guy at Vauxhall said only the Elites havew the Variable Effort Boxes and all the other Omegas steering boxes have the same part number thats prefacelifts facelifts saloon and estates

Does anyone have a TC Book to check the Part Numbers ?

Its crazy how they think people will fork out that much for a part..... for that money you could buy another omega or 2, get the bits you need from it/em then break the rest and make some money back.

The 6 cylinder models have the electronically adjustable steering, 4 pots don't. It is not model specific, but engine specific.

The letters are nothing to do with reg, its the letter 7 digits from the end of VIN.

That makes mine a 2003 model, then. First registered 30/10/02 so I guess the model years came out before the real year end?

If they're numbered sequentially mine's only no. 246 out of that year...

Yes, the model year tends to start just over halfway through previous year
