Hi James.
That voltage drop at the ECU could be significant. Might I suggest that as a quick check that you link the ECU as directly as possible to the battery with a jumper wire and see if anything improves?
I have no accurate information regarding ECU current consumption, but not so great as to cause a 1V drop across an interconnect, surely? Therefore perhaps a high resistance join/terminal along the way?

"mka306", NO need to apologise, all suggestions are welcome and I'm grateful that you took the trouble to reply, so my sincere thanks to you and all the other kind folks who replied.
As I do keep lots of odds and ends in that compartment (yes, I know I didn't oughter!), my having accidentally pulled that yellow wire from a connector was uppermost in my mind and I did what I thought was a thorough inspection - obviously not!
There's at least one person on here that knows every single wire, connector and parameter of our cars intimately, but he is obviously still asleep..... ;)

I will definitely have to find out how to post pictures on here. The wire in question looks like it has been cleanly stripped of its insulation for about 10 mm at the end and no sign of a spot weld - just like it had been pulled out of a connection somewhere.
If it had been a left-over wire from another installation, my solenoid would stilol work; it doesn't!
I would quite like the filler door to be lockable again, with the price of petrol these days and the scaly-backed brigade ever ready to help themselves to mine!

Actually, considering the expertise on this forum, I doubt that it's much of a challenge.
My problem?
I was replaqcing the filler door locking solenoid a while back and managed to pull a wire off - yellow, it is. I am unable to take/load a photo, so therein lies the challenge - where the **** does that yellow wire come from/go to? It emanates from the solenoid connector, but I cannot see any evidence or witness marks/signs to indicate where it belongs.
I have a small, unspoken, private bet with myself as to who will answer this for me..... :-X

STEMO, I hear you, but that is gross overchatging; don't they sell all the old oil on to the recyclers anyway, so there is no need to make any charge at all......

This makes sobering reading and is documented on the invoice as a 'small service' to include a complimentary visual health check.

For the Signum and not the Omega.

Here goes. :y

Oil Filter..............................................................................£18.25 plus VAT.

The great benefil with things like Meccano, etc., was that dad could "help", and especially with the Triang train set, junior could sometimes get to play with it, too!
Seriously, surely our kids are missing out on a lot with their solitary keyboard activities? Social skills/interaction, for sure......  :(

Ah bless; you must be SO proud!
I know how you must feel. My son has Aspergers and is somewhat older at 38 and I am slowly finding things that he can do - every success is a cause for celebration.   :y :y :y

Ah, Meccano - wasn't it brilliant?!!
And yet I became an Electronics Engineer and not a Mechanical one......

Ron.

P.S. Did anyone have a career influenced by childhood toys? EMD, what have you started!  ;D

IF he is still alive and kicking, he lives in a cave under ballard Down; the skippers of the Old Harry boat trips always wave to him, just to check that he is ok.

I did actually THINK about writing "not a bad job for a woman", but then, even as a joke, I would have had to go and hide in the next cave to that hermit that lives in the cliffs at Swanage!

Mr. Terbert, of course I did know the reason - they are NOT here to serve us and the term Civil Servsnt is a complete misnomer - they do not serve and are rarely civil!
I wonder if you recall a news item a year or so ago when the traffic wardens in St. Albans all went on strike and parking was a complete free-for-all?
Did the city come to a grinding halt, chaos and carnage everywhere? Nope, it managed very well, far better than normal, with people able to do what they wanted without hassle.
