Omega General Help / Re: Another part NLS
« on: 25 October 2017, 07:25:47 »
UK and German ebay no luck although I'm now waiting for delivery from a supplier in Hannover who initially seemed confident that Opel dealers would be able to supply with no problem.

I'll wait to see them drop onto the doormat, then I'll be happy.

This

is where I get my sheet steel from. Terry has 6 Omegas, he's going to need it.

Thanks, that'll work for all bar the rear most pin on the wing which is under quite a lot of tension, at least it is on mine, to hold the moulding tight to the bodywork. I suppose I could use a piano clamp which should have a deep enough throat to hold the moulding tight in place until the goo goes off.
Swap it for one which has snapped more appropriately to that position ;)
But when 4 of them broke leaving me with 1 either end, I got a bit stumped. I may have found some through a trim and bodywork company in Germany but my pidgin German means it's taking me a while to translate the whole communication. At best it'll be NOS but I'll take whatever is on offer.

Omega General Help / Another part NLS

Been working around the little bits of panel rust left and thought I would tackle the seam underneath the mouding on the rear 3/4 above the rear bumper. Yes there was a rusty seam, so glad I have got to it.

9148386, the plastic "break on removal" trim clips (10 in total according to the diagram but I have 6 either side on mine) that hold the moulding onto the rear wing are NLS on the Vauxhall system.

So is there another potential source for them ?
Where are we in the event of breakage through collision damage ?
Has anyone worked out a way of modifying them to get them to grip the pin again when 1 or more of the plastic tongues have inevitably snapped off ?

Cheers, will make a note.

Also just remembered that part of the leak was coming from the oil filter housing gasket. Might be worth just checking that too. Clutches are pretty indestructible although I have once got it to slip post remap, very busy roundabout, fully loaded, 1st into 2nd gear bang on boost with a heavy foot. Never again though.

Clarke 135 looks just like my Cebora, if so a good basic MIG welder. Mine cost me a donation to the lady across the road who'd just got divorced and was chucking out ex husband's stuff.

I was taught welding skills by a mate who did up land rovers for a living and I learned that basic MIG welding is a matter of power, wire speed, wire tension and the pace at which you work all in balance. A good argon/CO2 shroud goes a long way to keeping it neat too.

If it's any help I get 2.2L gas bottles from Telford welding and can do a fair bit with one bottle. Miggy currently on 3 wheels again whilst I weld new sections into rear inner arch behind plastic rear arch liner and dissolved flange behind bumper. Car is mechanically very strong with donkeys years left in it but would be on the scrapheap if I couldn't weld.

Ultimately a much cheaper solution than trying to replace it.

Do tell.  :D ;D ;D
I couldn't just take a prefectly good functioning welder so the donation was £20 I think. Didn't donate anything else.

I have a matching leak, been there for ages, nothing very much. Probably is the rear crank oil seal so I'll sort it out as and when the clutch gives up. In the meantime it serves as light rust proofing which I'm OK with.

Don't trust any oil additives. Risk of compromising oilways and pump, coating things you don't want coated etc too great in my book.

Omega General Help / Re: Modified the steering idle arm
« on: 22 September 2017, 20:36:16 »
Before I pay £20 for a next to scrap new arm, does anyone have the dimensions of the bush?

I need the length from the inner surface of each flange, total length, o/d and i/d of bush, Going to have a hunt around amongst the general non model specific poly bushes in various catalogues to see if one matches.

XXL V6   Hi....thanks for your post.  I dont know whether it is worth putting in a GM damper (crankshaft pulley) as my vehicle is a 2001 with 280k miles on it.....I love it to bits but it can only last so long surely.  I have a link here sent me by another member on here and it is very cheap on sale at ebay. I have spoken with the seller and he confirms that it is correct for my vehicle..... is it not okay?  - before I order it? Please can you have a look?  Dont know if it is a febi or what....

Many thanks....

Personally I would only fit a genuine one if i'm honest. Maybe I was just unlucky with the Febi one but because of it's early failure I wouldn't recommend that manufacturer or any 'cheap' versions on Ebay if you rely on the car.

At the price you suggested above the ones on ebay will be solid, without the rubber insert. The engine will shake it to bits in next to no time, there's a reason it has the rubber damper in it. Get a genuine or OEM one, Febi Bilstein I think were one of the OEM suppliers and see another 120K miles rather than about 120. My Febi one is still fine 20K miles later but clearly there's some variability.

Much depends on what you've been used to until now. The DTi is quite linear in terms of its boost and in standard trim is pretty mild. Yes, you can feel a little shove but that's about it. It's possible yours has been remapped at some point which might explain it. Go somewhere safe, put it in 2nd gear, about 1800rpm, pedal to the floor, does the front end lift, the back end squat and you grab a gear fairly promptly, if so it's not in standard trim.

Omega General Help / Re: Tyre confusion
« on: 01 September 2017, 10:18:46 »

I would have thought it'd be improved. Probably be a good bit more feedback. It's getting back towards sensible tyre sizes rather than the largely cosmetic sizes the Omega runs as standard.

Having said that, you'd be in danger of looking like one of those "euro look" bell ends who run stretched tyres on their VWs, so I'm out. ;)

Fitted 205s to a previous Omega as an experiment, granted not a 3.2, but it improved turn in and the back end was no looser. IIRC in 1994, some Omegas were fitted with 195s. I inherited 235s on current Omega and it tramlines more, the steering is duller and heavier and, until I changed the rears for a decent make, the back end was definitely more lively than it should be.
