Omega General Help / Pre -FL 3.0 no start..
« on: 29 May 2016, 18:52:41 »
Now this is a previously running engine (although not in an Omega now).

It started misbehaving a while ago - would start then stutter and stall.  I've changed the fuel pump (twice) and the crank sensor (twice - one genuine, one pattern) but still nothing.  I appear to have fuel (plugs smell a little after repeated cranking) so I assume I've got signal to fire the injectors.

Paper clip test shows an O2 sensor (bank 2 - is that offside or near side?), 31 (to be expected when not running) and 57 Idle Air Control voltage low.  Still won't start if I give it a bit of throttle. Is it just the ISCV duff or a clue to something else?

Any clues welcome..

Omega General Help / 2.2DTI as a tow car?
« on: 13 February 2014, 07:29:02 »
Cursory enquiry from a friend..

He's looking at a temporary tow car and going to be pulling a racer car on a trailer - so probably 1300-1400kg or so all up.  He's spotted a 2.2DTI near him but concerned about its ability to tow it easily enough?  He'd been looking at 530d BMWs but finding the ones in his budget full of issues - not surprisingly at the lower end of the market.

Any advice from anyone who puts a 2.2 into heavy towing duty?

If I need one, then I'll be going V6...but he's worried about the fuel bill  ;D

As the title really - I'm after a pair of long-nose plenum flexible pipes from the throttle body to the ram chamber (front of engine).

Anyone got a pair kicking around from a breaker?

Many Thanks!

Needs to be cheap and with MoT until September of better.  Budget limited to a single withdrawal at an ATM sadly.  Close to Midlands a bonus.  Stoke on Trent a real win!

Whats about, peeps?  Must be an estate and must have a towbar..

Omega General Help / Ex-plod X30XE in a non-Omega running rich?
« on: 26 November 2013, 14:43:32 »
Afternoon, all!  Been a while since I've been on here, but in the meantime I've managed to get my Ex-Plod X30XE installation into my Reliant Scimitar almost finished and has been road legal since August (just some niggles to sort out).

I know there's a lot of folklore around regarding ex-Police cars and whether or not they really were standard but after a quick run on the rollers (just after I'd got it on the road - wanted to check the fuel pump was up to scratch, honest 8) ) I have a question regarding what looks to be rich running.  At WOT (as befits a dyno run), the mixture just gets richer and richer - worryingly so.

Second plot shows torque and AFR - I think the hiccup is a sticky ram valve..

Exhausts are a pair of Calibra 3-1 manifolds to 2" downpipes and into twin 1.75" systems (no cats) - first box being an offset silencer, 2nd box on each side straight through.; air filtration is by an eBay cheap K&N cone copy if they have any bearing on matters (although if a restriction, I'd expect the torque/bhp to tail off rather than be a gradual richening?

Comments welcome..

Long time no visit...

I've been busy on the QT transplanting an X30XE into my Scimitar (yes, its been done before) and finally got to the moment this evening of turning the key...and it wasn't all roses :(

The one thing thats been bugging me is if the Alarm module is needed - the key antenna unit has a blue/red wire direct to the ECU (and another that I can't remember where it came from), key is in the antenna module (is position important) yet all I get is a flashing fault lamp which i'm pretty sure is Immobiliser still active.

Wiring diagrams in the Haynes are a little vague - "early" and "late" but that doesn't help as I don't know the age or VIN of the donor car for the engine and box (ebay special - ex-Plod Estate, apparently).  All I can tell is that its got the early inlet manifold and the later cam pulleys (bought an early cam kit....), and a Motronic ECU.  Battery wasn't in the rudest of health, so thats back on charge.

Any pointers, chaps?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Fuse 14 keeps blowing..
« on: 05 September 2008, 22:56:20 »
Pretty much as the title says..

Cig lighter - have been using the rear one to charge my phone/sat nav, but now the winter is coming, want to get it sorted properly!  Not too fussed about the seats, but mirrors, HRW are useful to say the least!

With all the offending switches off, it will still blow, normally on startup.  Whenever I put a multimeter on it, it's fine.

From what I can gather, the following runs off it:

Front Cig lighter
Air recirculation
Leccy Mirrors/heaters
Heated washers (Disconnected for now)
Heated rear window
Heated Seats

As I mentioned, all the switches that can be will be off, yet the fuse still blows after an indeterminate time - any prime suspects?  Any which come on automatically?

Just spotted on TB's "Mini site" MID reprogramming...does this mean if I find one from an MV6 (for example), it can be reprogrammed for my slushbox 4-pot?

Got that sick of the missing pixels, i removed the bulbs so it doesn't bother me at all now...

I'm assuming mine's a MID - 3 section, date at top, and clock at the bottom (yellow plug version, IIRC)?

Just saw some words regarding 8/10 digit ones as well...any difference?

My Mig has a laserline alarm fitted (by a PO), the round fob type.  I know the smooth button does both the alarm and CL - but anyone know the purpose of the other 2 buttons?  I suspect one might be an immobiliser or ultrasonics off button, but haven't managed to figure it out!

Got no instructions with the car so no idea - and not found any joy on the net as yet.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Spare 7.5A ignition feed?
« on: 26 April 2008, 21:11:35 »
Normally, when i fit something into a car i can use an unused slot in a fusebox somewhere given there's normally something not fitted.  I looked at the back of the fusebox (under the steering wheel) and there appears to be nothing which is spare!  Mine isn't fully loaded by all means (appears to just have std CD fitments for the year) - thought i might be able to pinch the aircon fuse point (not fitted on mine), but there's no feed wire to that fuse either!

To cut to the chase..anywhere anyone can suggest to pick up a 7.5A igntion controlled feed?

Have looked at (things not fitted)..

Traction Control
Aircon
Electric seats (but they are electric up/down and heated)

Help???

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Auto dipping mirror fitted!!
« on: 26 April 2008, 19:17:47 »
Finally got road to having an hour to fit the auto-dipping I bought.  Followed Hillpers guide here - even down to the trick of using an old PC motherboard connector..

...and it works!  Found that also the mirror can be tested by putting your hand in front of the "daylight" sensor on the back of the mirror to test it without it being dark.

For reference, mine's a pre-facelift and the mirror seems to be a post-facelift one (96 Elite - and the same as the one in the guide) - although the bracket on the mirror looks different, it still fits fine.  Just make sure you push it up the second bit (it seems to slide in, but wobble - pushing it the second bit sorts it for good).

I was on a roll..so thought i'd have a look at my misbehaving MID display..now it doesn't work at all!

Has anyone got one in electronic format, or know where i might be able to find one?

Hoping to install my LPG kit this Easter weekend (inbetween the snow and hail), but need to pick up the lambda signal (ECU, i guess) and rpm (green wire, i gather?).

Also come in hand if there was an unused supply in the fuse box to borrow (mine doesn't have aircon, btw).  Any ideas?

The MID on mine appears to be losing pixels by the hour - but i've only had it 8 hours!  When I picked it up, it was readable.  By the time i got home, i get about 4 pixels/character.  Can they be repaired, or is it a case of finding a replacement (which I gather from the FAQ are car dependant)?

Hi all,

Back again after a shopping spree and have been busy fitting an X30XE into my Scimitar GTE (been done once before and a few more being done by the sounds of it) but have a few problems, mainly because I didn't remove the lump myself (it was destined for an Opel Kadett but the guy decided to go Rover V8 instead for some reason).  His loss, my gain - I ended up with an X30XE with manual gearbox from an ex-Police estate.

Gearbox drain plug - is it a common size, or do I need to visit a stealer for one?

Have managed to figure out most of the vacuum circuit aside from i'm missing one; the feed for the fuel pressure regulator.  Does it, like the multiram feeds, come off the servo feed?

I've still got to fully figure out the wiring; there might be the odd question on that if you guys don't mind?  I had a Haynes manual from when I had my Mig, but I'm blowed if I can find it!

Omega General Help / ABS ECU Fix - but not the usual culprit!
« on: 19 September 2009, 22:06:03 »
This afternoon, Cybertrucker and I managed to fix his non-functioning TD Speedo (and everything else that needs a speed signal)..

This is a pre-facelift, so wasn't an ECU failure per se, but it took another unit to fix (from my 2.0).  All became evident as we took the connector off the existing one - a corroded, charred mess presented itself!  Looks like there had been some fluid spilt on it at some point, and the really important pin (out to the speedo, steering, cruis, sunroof etc) had actually broken off in the housing.

Within a couple of hours, we'd reassembled the connector with parts from the donor unit (and a new wire/pin) and it works!  Speedo is spot on (or seems to be).

Is it just V6 ones that are a pig to do?  Took about 10 minutes to remove it from my 2.0 and as much on the TD - rest of the time was rebuilding the connector!

EDIT - there were a lot more wires on my 2.0 one than the TD - is this because the BMW engine doesn't need the speed signals to the ECU?
