You would think that if these Friday cars like Del's  are so few and far between they would have a strategy which took them back and replaced them before the PR damage starts to permeate the ether - maybe far more prevalent than we imagine.

Exactly! BMW (UK) are unbelievably not interested in pretty much any fault(s) I'm having. They are trying every little thing to get out of warranty work despite the car being covered until next April.

Got a 2006 Audi A3 at the minute, VAG 1.9 TDI 105, when under load in 2nd, 3rd and 4th and you plant your foot right down you get a shudder vibration (noticeable by everyone) as the turbo kicks in, and in 5th the whole thing shakes violently as if its misfiring, if you accelerate higher up the Rev range however it's fine? This only happens if you go under full load, ease the power on and it's ok. Any ideas?

Also anyone know the oil capacity for these engines?

My son had a 2007 A3 1.9tdi and the gearbox problem was more a hesitation issue then a shudder when it picked up - it was off the road weeks while they tinkered with software - ended up with new gearbox. On Audi forums there seemed to be a certain resignation that this is a "feature" of this model. We did not accept that conclusion.

Was his Auto or Manual? Certainly doesn't feel gearbox to me, and I hope it isn't.

hence the reason I've got a 2011 car with 141 faults codes (8 pages of A4)  ::).
I know modern cars have enough sensors to detect a passenger scratching their arse, but 141 is really impressive :o

Well this is from one fault diagnostic read:

The only bit BMW have diagnosed as not working properly, showed up on another bit of paper as working really rather well.

It's luck of the draw, I've had 17 other of exactly the same cars which have had no problem. I've got this one which will not stop giving me grief, and it's still giving me grief to this day because of BMW's piss poor workmanship, which they will not accept responsibility for. I can honestly say this one I've got at the minute is one of the most unreliable cars I've owned, one for the engine issues, after that was carried out under warranty, I've had nothing but problems as I say because of a terrible dealership with poor 'technicians'.
Agreed - but all manufacturers have what used to be called Friday cars.  My point is that Watchdog were playing on BMW being "better" than others. We all know, in reality, they are no different to any other. And that includes the dealers and their technicians.

And you know that pains me to stick up for BMW :P

It's spot on and I couldn't agree more, the dealership network is pretty woeful, their 'technicians' don't know what to do unless a computer says do it, although their drink machines make a lovely cup of coffee, the customer service is terrible, and the reliability as you say is no better than any other Manufacturers out there, hence the reason I've got a 2011 car with 141 faults codes (8 pages of A4)  ::).

You know what - I have enjoyed all the banter and avatar's and post count stuff. As to bullying, what!!!, looks like just good old fashioned FUN to me, SUH injection never hurt anyone and some need it.

I might be wrong but I cannot see any malice here - unless I am miss reading/understanding what has happened to MDTM.

Anyway I am missing love'scakes usual input to this kind of thing at the mo  :( So the lesson is - live for today as you don't know what will come tomorrow.  :) :) :) :) :) :)

:-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

 :y :y

It's all generally a bit of banter, as is the 'bullying' what's needed a bit of fun  :y.

Saw it too, what they don't mention is oil service history? Usually these chains fail when they get brittle because of shit oil servicing

The chains break because the sprockets for the chain are too sharp and cause excessive wear, BMW are well aware of the issue, and what the problem is. They have even opened a PUMA case which is in a in-house BMW case and they won't issue a recall. That I'm afraid is fact and something they can't get out of, and I have all the details of the case in question ;).

1.9 TDI 105 :y. I'll have a check, will get the reader on it too. It's a strange one, haven't heard of it before really.

That's a thought I was having, I'll order one in the morning. Giving it a full service before it goes anyway :).

You my friend are also going to be a victim of bullying very soon  ;D :y.

That seems harsh - it is just that the fragrances the Polish guys put in my car after cleaning are a bit predicatable and some strange smells - anyhow - bullying is not to be sniffed at

Have you not seen the trend lately? Any mention of those things that freshen the air and that's your lot, you're a prime target to be bullied. It's unfortunately how it has become, due to someone being over something, but then not being over it  :(.
