Not that im an expert or nowt but surely, as I mentioned before, youd ''fudge'' the inner bit with your own metal.... not like it'd have to be pretty  :-\

i would only cut out the metal that is actually rusty and then cut the new guard to the hole you have got i wouldn't cut out good metal just for the sake of it, that is a big piece to weld back in!! :o
