Had one those rare moments today, I thought about something...  ;D

Cleaning my car i was wondering about the blanking slot that would have been for traction control.


With winter comming up, I was wondering about TC - Because the throttle is fly-by-wire, what else is needed?

I doubt it would be easy or as simple as a simple tech2 enable?

Now that would be an interesting project on a 2.2, I shall be watching this with interest.

How hard is it to do?

We all know the 2.2 is not brisk with its pace... and thats not the reason I would want TC. - I'd like it for those rare moments on slippery ice.

2 years ago we had a really cold winter and a lot of snow here, and my old front wheel drive Mondeo struggled.

There is a road here thats quite steep by some shops (Pavilons Way) and cars were sliding all over the place. My mondeo only just made it up, but i had to stop about 5 times, and it slowly crept up with a lot of wheel spinning which i was trying to avoid.

With the Omega being rear wheel drive, which is bad for snow. Just made me wonder...

If only it was a simple tech2 enable..

Those shops can't be more than 400yrds from you house - walk!

The ABS system fitted to 4 pots simply doesn't support TC. Even if you fitted the v6 one, the engine ECU hasn't the input for it...

Ah well, thats that.

Decent tyres, HA... decent clutch control more like  ;) ;D

That winter i popped out to Banbury, when was there tones of the stuff came down. Never went more than 35mph on the main road, i should have gone around the by-pass thinking about it.

Whats a clutch - I just threw it in 1st and blatted the throttle, you didn't say anything about a clutch...  ;D

I found the TC on my MV6 worked OK in the snow. All the BMW drivers weren't going anywhere coz their TC is shite, but Omegas were moving....

I find it's a crock of turd on any car I've driven that has TC fitted. Usually better off fitting decent tyres and switching the damn thing off. Stability control on the other hand can get you outta the crap when the car starts going sideways unexpectedly, but I don't know of any Omegas that have it. On most cars you can switch it off for when you want to slide 8-) but I believe there are some where you can't switch it fully off :o

I've only ever driven 4 rwd vehicles on ice - a Morris Ital, A Ford Tranny, Omega, and 3 series BMW.

The ones without TC had a habit of spinning 180. BMW had to turn the bugger off, car wasn't moving, and again tendency to want to do a 180. Omega with TC on was the better by a long shot, though not sure if that was just due to how good the tyres were on my MV6. Though the MV6 was an auto, so far from ideal in those conditions...

I suppose that TC does have it's merit under some driving conditions, but in my 8 years of Omega wonership I only saw the TC light come on around 5-6 times, usually when going over a fairly high speed bump (rear of car going sligthly up in the air).

But then again I only ever managed to get the ABS to cut-in on a couple of ocassions, yet it's a safety feature that I would like to have, so I guess if you count TC as a safety feature as well then it does serve a purpose... as do the aitbags and seat belts?

But as far as day-to-day driving is concerened, I don't see that it matters much if you have TC or not. Well not with my middle-age driving style anyway...

Morris Ital/Marina :( you poor bugger.
My auto Elite in snow last year was the same as the 3 series BMW you drove. I tried to turn right across the sludge of snow in the gutter up a slight incline onto the main road. I ended up with my foot buried in the carpet not actually going anywhere cos TC knows best!!  :-?
Must admit though a few years ago whenever it snowed I left the Senator at home and used the wife's FWD drive Cherry. 145 tyres just cut through the snow and went exactly where I wanted it to.  :)

Ahhh...  :-[

Am I to uderstand that you have the same problem with your TC light as TD has with his EML - i.e. it is on most of the time?  ;D

Middle-age doesn't exist when you are approaching Middle-ageness. Take my age for example '37' . When i was young, 37 was just 'Old' nothing else just 'Old'. Now i'm here i class myself as , well, shall we say 'Early Adulthoodnessish' .I can forsee that i will stay around this ' Early Adulthoodnessish' period for quite some time to come, possibly until i retire, then i think i would like to become Middle-aged.The only drawback with this theory is when I look at my sixteen year old daughter, I just feel sooooo bloody old ;)

No TC on the Ital, must have been an entry level model ;)

When I drive our teenage daughters, being a parent I am obviously an embaresment regardless of what I do or don't do. I offered to wear a brown paper bag with holes for my eyes when driving them around, but somehow they didn't agree....  ;D

...and when I pick her up late at night from a school disco, I am not allowed to go in under any circumstances, I am to wait OUTSIDE until she comes out... Yes I can call her mobile, but she won't hear it ring anyway.

So I walk around on the grounds in small circles with my hands behind my back, waiting patiently, just to notice that I am one of several dads all doing the same, which for someone looking at us from a low-flying plane would seem like a bunch of pecking hens...

The TC light on my dash probably bares some resemblence to the lights at your school disco  :D combination of crappy rear tyres and my determination to wear them out as quickly as possible is the main culprit. A few thousand revs before dumping the clutch certainly speeds up the tyre wear almost as much as the acceleration!

Even better going round sharp bends though, sit in a low gear and stomp the gas on the apex... reminds you why FWD is no fun 8-)

Thats where you went wrong. My 4x4 training taught me to only use idle and light throttle...
