Irmscher rear spoiler estate - removal
« on: 17 February 2017, 13:25:55 »

I want to swap my tailgate which is slightly damaged with one from a donor vehicle.
My tailgate has the lovely rear spoiler on it though. So obviously, this means swapping it from one t'other!

How does one remove it?  ???

Heat, care and a flat wide paint scraper :y

Refit with Sikaflex MBT from Screwfix, black preferably ;)

Thanks for that. I had a horrible feeling it would something along those lines.
The question now is: Cost, benefit analysis.
I have a very minor dent/scratch in my tailgate - swapping the whole tailgate for another & then carefully removing the spoiler & refitting it to the new tailgate......Oh, it really worth it?!

I'll think on it a while :y

Two things... They look better with spoilers and the spoilers are made from unobtainium ;)

Takes about half an hour to do, and it really doesn't matter what the old tailgate looks like when you've done ;)

If it is a proper Irmscher one on the Estate some were also bolted on as well as glued, depends who fitted it, Irmscher / Dealer Order do bolt them, so check from inside the tailgate and remove is ness before trying to pull it off.

I had a vague notion that I may have the receipt for the spoiler.
I've just gone through the file & found the original.

It is an Irmscher spoiler ordered & fitted by the main dealer: Carringdale Motors in Pulborough.
It was fitted in Sept '03 & cost £124.80, £56.00 painting, £48.99 labour: Total £270 incl.

The other interesting bit is it says on the Invoice as an "advise": Aerial linkage on order (F O C) for the customer.
Of course, it never arrived!... & now I need one.

My primary worry, is if I attempt to remove it, there is the possibility that my hamfisted attempt will damage the spoiler.
(I'm less worried about the tailgate )
So having slept on it, (not literally ) I'm going the coward option & am leaving my tailgate where it is! :o

Anybody need a perfect, star silver Z157 tailgate?!  ;D
