No throttle after throttle body and breather clean
« on: 19 February 2017, 17:30:48 »

Hi all

Just cleaned throttle body and breather pipes put everything back together and now have no throttle response. >:( Car started and idle was moving between 800- 1200 rpm for a couple of mins then settled at 800 rpm and engine electronic light came on. whilst removing the DBW connection I lost the grey section in the engine bay somewhere and can't find it. I removed the disc from the throttle body to clean as it had thick crusted on gunk and when I reassembled I checked it was moving freely. Also the metal sump breather pipe was totally blocked so could it be the ecu getting used to the engine breathing again. car is 2.2 sport saloon 02 reg. anybody get any clues please.

Cheers Butts

Sounds like your problem. Have you got someone to hold plug in place to maintain connection whilst trying the throttle?

You could always try cable ties to hold the plug in the socket :y

Drop the engine tray, it's only 4 8mm bolts. Also have a close look along the driver side chassis rail as it has a habit of catching all sorts of things.

Another place to check, but might be a bit late as you've started it, is inside the bowl of the inlet manifold ;)

Cheers everyone going to have a proper look in the morning when its light again, when I reconnected dbw there was a good reconnection click, so I thought it had engaged correctly. Dr gollum will drop the engine tray and have a look there, I was a good boy and blocked the manifold with a cloth  ;). I know roughly where it dropped, saw it drop. will let you know how I get on. once again cheers everyone.

Morning all
I found the little grey clip for the DBW connector after an hour of looking reconnected it still no throttle :'(. anyone got any more clues. sorry don't have a code reader and it's a 2.2 so no pedal trick. I have 2 thoughts about it, 1 I've got moisture into the throttle body electrics housing (I only used a toothbrush and was careful not to get the terminals wet) 2 where it was so blocked and gunked up, and the metal sump breather pipe was blocked solid with 150000 miles of crud (so blocked took 1/2 hour of hooking dry oil out just to get water to run through) that the ecu does not like it now its clear. thanks for any help.

Did you really use water to clean it?

Can you manually move the throttle butterfly with a finger?

Ok, from memory the connector has to go on a very long way to get good engagement with the pins and often requires some effort to get it all the way home.
