Personally I'd prefer Tarmac tyres as they would be quieter, have better grip and wouldn't tram line as bad!  :y

I may need a new pair of tyres very shortly, can anybody advise as to what grade of steel and which profile I should get?

We need to lobby parliament for rubber roads, that way we can all have concrete tyres that never wear out.

I'm sure there's a concrete test that's relevant to the omega somewhere on the web. :)

Listen to Radio 2, do we?  ;D

Tarmac wears too easy. Defeats the object IMO.

Ah but it depends on the compound of the Tarmac and of course the construction of the tyre. How many steel belts/nylon belts etc

Not that I'm teaching my Granny to suck eggs of course....  ::)  :)

Now your just being silly. All the specifications will be in the road. Bead, construction, belts, pressures loaded or unloaded. All in the road.

We of course will be inundated with pot hole damage claims where water has got into our concrete tyres and broken up, damaging the road, and of course, its suspension. :D

i got to say....... as a former QA test engineer on the M40 extension.....   you lot are woefully ignorant about tarmac....    and tarmac vs concrete....

i'd take tarmac tyres over concrete,   although they will wear faster,  the water displacement ability will be better, and noise levels will be lower,     wear rates can be varied by using different types of sub-base and top grade,      and varying the bitumen and binder content as well as the mineral grading .

what worries me is the shear force action at the grade layer interface , you could find in hot weather, that the outer skin of the tyres slips on the substructure...  making traction and cornering ability somewhat suspect....    while concrete wouldn't suffer from that, it would be susceptible to stress cracking and shattering in icy conditions if previously cracked...       also,  i'm worried about the thermal input from the brakes ,  probably alright under miss daisy drivers, but Jaime would potentially be in serious trouble.

Max I'm not talking about any old cheap Chinese asphalt ditchfinders here, but I'm talking about tarmac with a capital T, as in the brand Tarmac.  Surely they will be the leading brand of asphalt tyres?  ???

I hear their summer range are especially sticky in hot weather!  ;)  ;D

You weren't one of those chasing me up and down it before it opened, as I used to use it as a shortcut around the Oakley/Thame area. I would have been in a yellow Ital van, absolutely, completely flat out :P
