No more XP, so tempted . . .

Toshiba Satellite Pro L830-17T 13.3" Intel Core i3 6GB 500GB Laptop

Tesco, £249.00 but only until monday. If I think about the cost and hassle of upgrading to Win 7 or 8, this could make sense. My current netbook is now some years old.

http://www.tesco.com/direct/toshiba-satellite-pro-l830-17t-133-intel-core-i3-6gb-500gb-laptop/753-6039.prd

The above link may die when offer ends

Any thoughts ?   :-\    :-\

Tesco website says not available, but they have them in my local store

Probably best not to encourage discussion about pirate software.........

what costs? loads of free versions of win7 about don't bother with win8.
can't believe you are still running xp ;D

I follow the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" path, and XP wasn't broke, but it probably will be very soon  >:(

As long as you dont use it for anything important such as online banking, paypal, email, etc then it's fine. Make sure you keep all AVs up to date to minimise the risk.  It won't be safe but you can use it for general browsing. I would also do a clean install if you have a repair partition or discs, put alk the apps and software you use on it and then make an image by backing up the entire drive.  Then on a regular basis backup your docs and pictures, reinstall from the image and restore your docs etc.  This will also reduce your risk.  The biggest risk to personal XP users will be zero-day ransomware thus keeping your docs and photos up to date is pretty important.  If you get hit you simply reinstall from the image.  Also only connect XP machines to the net when you need to :y

They are going to stop the support for the Xbox 360 in about 2 years. :)

Why do we all have to upgrade?

I don't understand. :(

Microsoft continually update windows to patch any security flaws that hackers find in the operating system.
With XP no longer supported, it will become more vulnerable to viruses and spyware so if you use XP for internet  banking or anything were you need a password or have personal details it best to upgrade to something like Win7 which I acquired  ;)

If it is just used for word processing or playing games then its not so much of a problem  :)

So it's been out for centuries and it still has flaws that haven't been fixed?

I have just put a copy of Win 7 Ultimate on a old Pentium 2 running at 600 hertz with 1 gig of ram.
Over Christmas I did the same with a Acer netbook again with 1 gig of ram.
There a little slow but very stable  :)

The Pentium 2 was a bitch to get the drivers needed but you can find them if you know where to look

Yep, unlike Vista, Win 7 will run on a fairly low spec machine

Found this blokes description for the following vid
"Windows Embedded POSReady 2009 is a slimmed-down and slightly facelifted version of Windows XP with support from Microsoft until April 2019. It does everything XP can do, and runs well on older computers, like this Compaq Deskpro EN with a 1 GHz Pentium III"
