Started the car this morning, starts running rough straight away, flashing EML.  Great.

Fault codes from scantool :

P1890   
P1781* (pending)
P0706* (pending)

None of which seem to appear in the maintenance section list of Y32SE codes. 

Any suggestions ?

Car has already had 2 x coil packs, cam gaskets, 6 x plugs

Crank sensor?

The 17xx and 18xx are CAN errors. This is a sign one of the ECUs on the CANBUS is either saying something unexpected, or not responding (or responding in an expected manor). This itself is usually when one of the CANBUS ECUs is in some form of error handling. The 0706 is a Range switch, and the only useful code.  Worth reading TCM and ABS anyway.

As per first post, it starts but runs like it's missing, similar to when one of the coils had bit the dust.  It will rev. I didn't even bother trying to move the car this morning, just gave it the f stamp, turned it off and pulled the codes on the laptop.

Just been out and started it up, and other than a bit of hunting at idle +/- 30rpm it's running ok whilst sat in Park.  Selected all gears fine.  Cleared all codes, only the two rear o2 sensors reappeared (which were keeping the engine light on before). 

Given that I didn't even make it out of park this morning and the engine was running shit is it still likely to be the switch?

The TCM (and ABS unit) have the option to ask the engine for "reduced torque", which basically cuts cylinders.

If it plays up again, immediately check the LEDs near gearstick, see if all on, or flashing. If so, you've found a likely cause.

Additionally, now you have cleared codes, keep an eye on if Range Switch code comes back.


A further problem may be the trims are drifting too far (this will cause the emmissions EML to flash as well), which will make it run like a bag of nails. Clearly codes reset trims. So before you clear codes next time, read the trim values.  Trim faults that far out, though, normally give misfire codes as well.

Only the check engine light flashes, although with 3month old primary o2 sensors, 2 month old coils and plugs i'd be narked off if it couldn't fuel correctly.  (And on any other day it runs just fine).

Several journeys and a couple of hundred miles later and fault has not reoccured or logged any codes. 

LTFT Bank 1 = 1.6%
LTFT Blank 2 = 0.0%

Cambiare (sp?) ones that came with the car when I bought it. Why?

LTFT bank 1 doesn't look good. Check for airleaks around the ICV and vac.
