Omega General Help / V6 Fault code difference
« on: 08 March 2010, 14:10:40 »
Hello, whats the difference between the V6(cable)motronic 2.8.1 and the V6(DBW) ME 3.11 fault codes. I assume the latter is drive by wire(DBW) and seems to be related to Y26SE and Y32SE engines. So which cars/models had which and was one discontinued and replaced by the other and if so why and when.? Am just intrigued to know as currently i dont!
I can see one has 2 or 3 digit codes and one has 4 and am guessing they have different ecu`s

Omega General Help / Auxiliary 12v water pump
« on: 24 February 2010, 11:44:13 »
Its the one bolted to the inner drivers wing under the header tank and i believe fitted to facelift MV6`s as  winter pack.
Anyway its leaking coolant, connecting pipes are fine its dripping through the pump body somewhere. I have disconnected the 12v feed thinking if its not operational it may leak less. Joiining the two feed and supply pipes and taking the pump out of the water circuit seems like it would eradicate the leak  and would solve the immediate problem.I dont feel happy about joining these two pipes yet in case the pump operation depends on some other valve opening etc. My guess is the pump is non-repairable so i need another methinks.Did a search and somebody posted the part no.,but cannot find it again,it was something like 902???117.Doesnt look too cheap, obviously a good secondhand one might be the order of the day.
Any advice welcomed,regards.

Are they identical on the suspension components.ie shocks and springs?

Omega General Help / Bust the ashtray
« on: 13 February 2010, 14:01:50 »
Hello,i plugged one of those little electric tyre inflators/compressors  into the cigarette lighter socket in the large ashtray in the bottom of the centre console, applied too much pressure and messed up the mechanism(went extremely stiff afterwards). Not to be beaten i wiggled and pushed until i heard what sounded like something snapping.Bottom line is it travels smoothly but wont lock into place closed. The question is do i need to remove it to inspect the mechanism and if so how do i do it?This is spoiling my very fine car,if it needs the whole unit it will get one.

Omega General Help / Facelift MV6 suspension
« on: 28 January 2010, 23:16:37 »
Hello, cant find the answer by searching so question is what are  the suspension  differences on a 2.6 MV6 compared to a 2.6 cdx ,is it springs and shocks on the facelift or just  lowered springs. if the shocks for MV6 models are totally different are they much more money to buy from VX and are there any recommended alternatives?,regards.

Omega General Help / MV6 vented rear discs
« on: 26 January 2010, 16:46:26 »
Hello,i ordered rear discs for my 2001 MV6 2.6 auto today after having a good look at why my brakes were squealing from the rear(highlighted when turning corners without braking).Basically the newish pads are struggling to bed in to a less than flat disc surface with lips to either side of the contact area and the main contact surface area leaving a lot to be desired. i could have left everything to finally bed in over time but as i have just got the car i want it to be 100%.
I needed them tommorrow so rang europarts first,(didnt list them), VX leeds next,(£92+vat retail, £66.60+vat trade) and my local motorfactors in york last(had to order in,trade £135.00+vat).
Ordered the VX discs at £66.60+vat,cash on delivery tommorrow (was at a friends garage(AUTO ENGINEER) and can use the lift tommorrow
I was hoping they were going to be about £45 inc..
My engineer mate says i am well behind the times and thought £66.60+vat a good price for vented rears.

Incidentally i was quoted £12,£6 and £64.50 by VX Leeds(Evans Halshaw) for large gasket, small gasket and filter, respectiveley, for the autobox. Declined the filter  as i have read on here somewhere they can be washed out.Cars done 71k and the gearbox works perfectly so changing it didnt seem so much a priority at that price.

Omega General Help / Getting all the atf fluid out
« on: 24 January 2010, 19:56:28 »
Hello,i have searched the forum and asked questions on threads but am none the wiser. When i change the atf in my auto box i would like to get all the old fluid out. i realise just dropping the sump wont empty the torque convertor and also realise if i change what comes out,run the engine/box and change again and again and again that eventually i will get to a nearly all new fluid change but the mathematics on that procedure means i will get through gallons of atf.
So the question is, are there pipes the main dealers or specialist garages connect to and pump all the old stuff out or is there some sort of other procedure to empty all of it?regards.

Omega General Help / Up in the air
« on: 24 January 2010, 21:59:17 »
Hello,if i have my omega  on a lift supported at the body and wheels dangling can i put it in drive and let the rear wheels spin. i am asking because i stumbled across a thread somewhere in the depths of the forum with a brief reference to this and someone saying they had heard this could damage the drive shafts.i was intending to do this to check the drivetrain in motion, any thoughts?,regards.

Omega General Help / Grease points
« on: 24 January 2010, 20:47:30 »
I will be getting the MV6 2.6 auto i very recently bought on a lift this week for a close inspection and wondered if i ought to have a grease gun with me as i was thinking there might be grease nipples in the drive shafts or propshaft. If there are,how often ought they to be checked?

3rd time now(my fault i know) have gone to pull down the boot lid with the black plastic pull down handle type thing and nearly detached my hand from the wrist.Anything more than just a very gentle tug seems to set off a chain reaction and as the boot comes down with increasing speed the hand gets trapped and the boot lid becomes a guillotine!

Anybody suffered the same or am i just cack handed?
