General Discussion Area / Re: This corona virus
« on: 31 January 2020, 19:36:53 »
The number of cases in China is doubling every 2 days to reach 8000 confirmed cases yesterday on average each infected person is infecting between 1.4 & 3.8 people with person-to-person infections. Unlike SARS which was only infectious after you became ill, this is like flu and you are infectious before you know you have even got it. :o Assuming each person gives it to an average of 2.6 people, then
8000*2.614 2 day cycles ie in 28 days 5 billion of the population will have been infected. :o :o :o

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-china-51305526

SARS killed 14-15% of those infected MERS kills 36% of ill people with 2019-nCoV currently killing 4-5% of those infected, so about 1 in 20 to 1 in 25 from primarily viral pneumonia with secondary bacterial pneumonia (like SARS) giving you double pneumonia. 1 in 20 to 1 in 25, meh I've got nothing to worry about! ::) It starts with an up to 10 day incubation period before you fall ill with normal flu like symptoms & a dry cough. In the second week it starts causing shortness of breath as pneumonia takes hold & can also damage your heart & kidneys making it more dangerous to those with problems with either. With SARS people that had secondary conditions like diabetes, Lupus, etc. had higher death rates. :(

Sorry, but you have got lots to worry about when it hits this country. More men than women died with SARS & they don't know why but they think where women have a rubella booster in their teens this may help & is being investigated. Less than 1% of children died, and death rates started climbing rapidly in over 45s with over 50% of over 65s dying as a result of the SARS infection. This new virus has much in common SARS although so far is is only about a 25-30% fatality rate compared to SARS but it is spreading much faster. When it hits the UK then the older UK population is going to be given a good cull. Spanish flu killed 50 million after WWI & I don't think it is unreasonable to think it is now too late to stop this becoming a global pandemic where far more die this time. For example, with the average age on here between 1 in 2 & 1 in 8 of us, dying as a result of a 2019-nCoV infection. >:(

As per usual the UN's & WHO's wait & see attitude before taking action to stop its spread, it now looks like it is now too late for this! >:(

All the usual precautions may help stop you getting it washing your hands after you have been in public places with hot soapy water & not touching your face or eyes will help.

There are currently no effective treatments with anti-viral drugs not working, so it is you & your immune system deciding which wins. :o Quite a few bio labs & drug companies are working hard to try & find effective anti-viral drugs & create new vaccines, with several companies hoping to begin human trials of new vaccines during the summer & have the vaccine ready before next winter. :y

You sir, have a one track mind. ;D

It's the way the world has changed, Mr Ronny.

Back in the day it would have been seen as a charming song that all the old people would sing along to :-\. An innocent song.

These days, thanks to the gutter press, society see's 'kiddie fiddlers' everywhere.

As small kids we would be out from 8 AM to 8PM without any supervision. :y

That is Opti because they are everywhere
. Just locally I know of 4;  one from Ashford who was considered “prolific” at it when sentenced with many victims was fairly recently murdered in prison( :y :y); my daughter knew one who was convicted and sentenced to 12 years jail, then another two we know of that served their time and are now walking the streets around here. They are just the four we know of over the last few years. >:( >:(

Possibly Lizzie......but I don't think they are breeding. They have always been around.  :) :-* :-* :-*

Absolutely they have, and I know that for a fact from experiences in my early years when no one seemed to talk about it :(

Read  my bit about poor Victorian girls Lizzie.......I think I have it right. :) :-* :-* :-*

You have, but they actually were the lucky ones to live to the age of 12, and not die of illness or working in factories.
Times were different, with many adults lucky to reach an age of 35.  Thefore the sooner girls were married and producing children the better as far as the working class Victorian family was concerned.  More children in the family meant at least a few would survive childhood, whilst also earning money until they died or moved on to start their own families.

Hard Times indeed! :'( :'(

 :-* :-* ;)

and the same thing still happens today in the slums of India, Africa and South America ... low life expectancy leads to higher birth rates ... always has and probably always will ..... :(

Yes,indeed :y

I would also add that in those countries, as in early Victorian England, a young women, as early as possible after the start of her menstrual cycle, was at her best for giving birth to children. The younger the women is, and this is still true today in Britain, in having her children the less chance of “complications” in the babies development and birth. In Victorian England the chances of dying in child birth were very high, and the more children a women had, the older she got, and the greater the chance of death.

Today in third World countries, away from modern medical support, that is still the case. But, even in 2020 a British women leaving the start of having a family later and later, to into their late 30’s as many now do, still risk having “complications”, such as miscarriage, a disabled baby, or even death. It is still the case that is is ‘easier’ for young women to produce healthy babies than for older ones. ;)

Some women also find childbirth much easier than others. My first wife didn't hang around with contractions to birth taking about 1 hour. My eldest daughter was even quicker with each birth taking less time so the midwife decided the travel time to hospital would be too long for her third, so she ought to have a home birth & she was right where from 1st contractions to birth taking 20 minutes, so the local midwife only just got there in time!

One thing is for sure, what the State wants from its people they get.

No planning enquiries there! ::) ::) :D ;)

If you disagree with what the state is doing, your immediate living relatives are invoiced by the state for the cost of the bullet they used to resolve the issue with you. :o :o

Up in London today & it's Lunar new year so London China town is packed with relatives & visitors. WHO have tested human-to-human infection rates at 3.8% +/-0.2%. This translates into a contained infection rate if 72-75% of infected people don't pass it on to a 2nd person, if they do we are into pandemic territory. :o :o :o   Simple to do the maths from this, where we are an open borders, travel freedom sh*t street. So, I will see you all on the other side & I'm grabbing 1 of the hotter seats in hell where I don't like the cold. :P

If Lord Opti & Uncle STEMO fall off their perches it is much more likely to be from their very, very old ages, rather than any illness. :P :P :P

We all sell our labour for the maximum we can. The key is to work in a rich industry, where entertainment is the richest & to have high skills that only a small number of people have at that level. Top pop stars, actors/actresses, writers & other top creators earn large amounts as well. If you can't beat them join them. :y

I couldn't make up my mind whether I needed one or not, so I ordered it anyway  ;D

......where it will remain unopened to be used by somebody after you die. :)

 It's stemo's coffin, he's planning ahead  :)

Ah....I see. So it will be needed in a few months at the most. :)

Will be if Mrs stemo, finds he's unblocked all the porn on the laptop.. :D

Where my Ukrainian wife & Ukrainian women are very pragmatic in understanding men & their 'ways', I can't see Mrs STEMO throwing his laptop up the wall. Now highly strung latino Spanish & Italian women are the complete opposite, ask Lord 'I need another new laptop' Opti. :o :-X

The Brummie woman with the greasy hair has dropped out.

Is that the gobby, big ego, shouty one who 'power dresses' using the house clearance clothes rail at her local charity shop? :-[

Civil society & fair play are much stronger here than in France, where it is much more all about "moi, moi et moi" to the overall detriment to their society & wealth as a whole, although I do like their day-to-day laid back attitude to life where their priorities are: Food, fun & f*cking & not necessarity in that order. ::)

Their petty bureaucracy, anti-business & entrepreneurship & 57% of GDP government spending are all pretty stifling if you want to get ahead in life. They are good at milking the EU funds & quotas to their advantage & it is usually at the UK's expense, but that all starts to change on the 31/01. ;)

To me our different national character is summed up by our industrial revolution empowering the many at the gradual expense of the landed gentry few, whereas the French just chopped all their heads off! :o

Exceptional photography, but make the most of it as it is spewing out more CO2 than mankind does, so Greta is banning it next week. ::) ::) ::) It along with several other recently reactivated volcanoes will cause a global cooling effect on top of the next 3 x 11 year minimum solar cycles we are just entering. As the earth cools volcanic & earthquake activity increases so lets hope we avoid an ice age as these are the conditions when they form.
