Omega General Help / Re: Upgrade brakes??
« on: 24 July 2008, 08:02:17 »
A friend of mine has a vectra and he asked the same question on the vectra forum and he to was told about black diamond drilled and grooved discs so he thought i will get some to then be told that it can take up to 4 weeks for delivery so we then went to vauxhall and got a gen set for half the price. At the end of the day its all down to what you want and what money you want to spend but he does drive his car hard and he is very happy with the vauxhall discs and pads.

If i was going for better brakes then i would be looking around the breakers and ebay for a vauxhall monaro set up as this will be far better than what we have on the bigger omega and the best bit is they will fit stright on also have a look at this link about a brake upgrade on the catera sport which is the US omega (same car) http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1182703783

Omega General Help / Re: What do you reckon is going on...

Symptoms are:

Loosing coolant (about 1litre every 1000 miles, but is increasing)
Feels down on power
Hesitant upto 4000rpm
Complete bugger to start when cold, and then is firing on 5 cylinders, possibly 4, for about 10 seconds and then runs fine.

Since owning the car:
New oil cooler fitted 12 months ago
The HBV was replaced 12 months ago with a new GM item.
I replaced the headertank about 8 months ago, aswell as a new pressure cap too. (both from VX)
Plugs, Leads and Coilpack replaced about February (GM item) - this did not solve missfire.
Since having the car, I've done a complete coolant flush, and the system is now the proper mix (coolant is a nice pink colour) the coolant does not change colour either, and remains pink.
Oil has been changed regularly, but it soon turns black (say after 2.5k miles)

Also, there is an oil leak from between the block and head on the passenger side (originally assumed it was the cam cover gaskets, so I've done them 4 times now, and replaced the cam cover with 2 others (1 second hand, 1 brand new)

Personally, I reckon its heads-off time... although banging in a 3.2 is more appealing (IF I can find one...)

On ebay there is a pair of heads and cams for a 3.2. Would they fit on the 2.5 bottom end.

Omega General Help / Auto gear box oil.
« on: 13 July 2008, 11:31:31 »
It looks like i have sold my 95 3.0 V6 elite auto (will know later) and with a bit of luck we should have a new member. When the chap phoned about the car he ask when the gear box last had an oil change. I was under the impression that it never needs changing.
Am i wrong  :'(

Just a point of interest what is the different between oil for a diesel engine and oil for petrol engine. Is it just the diesel oil have different additives.
I was offered some good synthetic oil for free but it was for diesel, so had to pass.
Due to better diesel engines and very good synthetic oils petrol oil and diesel oil is now the same. The only thing you need to know is if your engine needs a semi synthetic or a super synthetic 5/30 or 10/30 oil etc etc.

Omega General Help / Re: 2.5 TD vs 2.2DTi
« on: 05 July 2008, 01:02:07 »
If you want auto then go for the 2.5 but if you want better mpg then go for the 2.2.
My last 2.2 diesel had 237,000 miles on it and it is still going now.
They will pull all day long and never let you down and i have seen them with as much as 460,000 on the clock.

They are about 10 bhp down on the 2.5 unit but it still goes very well. The 2.2 is not quite as smooth on tick over as the 2.5 but it is a very good engine and i now have my second 2.2 DTI.

Hope this has helped you in your quest for a omega diesel  :y

On my facelift omega i have xenons which have a sort of switch inside the light so that when you want to drive on the other side of the road you can swap the beam over.
I only found this because the guy at the garage put a side light bulb in and must of moved it so when i used the car at night it looked like i had a bulb gone.
Is this only on xenon lights or is it on all.

Omega General Help / Re: Omega 2.2 diesel with top end tap.
« on: 04 July 2008, 18:36:54 »
Well problem now sorted. Got the cam cover off today to find that one of the rockers had snapped so not any thing to do with the turbo going or the big ends just sodding bad luck.

Thanks guys for your ideas  ;)

Omega General Help / Omega 2.2 diesel with top end tap.
« on: 03 July 2008, 18:58:26 »
This car has not been started for over 3 months due to needing big end shells after the turbo went. Fitted the big end shells today and started it to find that the slight noise in the bottom end has gone but it now has a tap in the top end also does not run smooth on tick over just as if it is running on 3 pots not 4. The engine has not had the sump on for the last 3 months so all the oil had drained but after the big end shells went in i put in new oil and started it and so did this tap. I took it for a run and it still taps so my thought of just needing oil at the top end goes out the window.

Can anybody give me some ideas as to what it might be :(

Have taken off the cover thing under the engine and am looking for the starter motor. Not in usual place and can't see it anywhere else.

It is the 2.2 DTI engine.

Please help! Need info quickly.

Want to check earthing points / connections due to unreliable starting.

Thanks!

When you get it to start does it turn over fast or slow.

From one taxi driver to another a bit less right foot :y

I also have an Omega 2.2 DTI saloon and if i do a lot of town work it does drop to around 31/32 and my father a taxi driver also drives an omega 2.2 DTI and he gets about the same so i would say your car is fine but make sure you change the oil a lot more than the 20000 mile service that cars are ment to have.  :)

Also my last omega DTI had 237000 miles when i sold it on and that also was doing the same MPG.
