Hello   thinking of buying a 2003 Omega cdx Estate  2.6  car seems fine but annoying squeak from rear , can hear from outside too. Cambelt needs doing but body looks fine.

Got service history, manual,  are these fairly "bullet proof" or what?

Hi , take your time and check everything works , bits for these cars are not cheap , cambelt cost me £400 at the dealer but shop around you will get it alittle cheaper , the squeak maybe needs apair of shock absorbers £ 80 each maybe ?

The rear shocks will come in under a £100 for the pair TC for the rear of your omega but the squeak could be a link arm which is a lot less money

The cambelt from vauxhall will set you back about £125 TC and if you let us know where you are in the country there may be a member who could help you out with the fitting for a few beer tokens or there may even be a cambelt meet coming up soon.

These are great cars and dont cost the earth to run

If you are prepared to do a bit of preventative maintenence yourself, with help from this site, they are pretty reliable, and not too bad to run.  Many of them suffer from being dealer serviced throughout a lot of their lives...

Could do with updating your profile mate so we can see where abouts your from, what car you have etc..

The squeak could be really something simple like pads or shoes....

As for bullet proof, if you keep them serviced regular i think they are a great car

The squeak is very likely a stiff or seized handbrake actuator. Had this problem on disc braked Cavaliers before.

It holds the handbrake on just enough to let the shoes touch the inside of the disc hub - very annoying to say the least!

The cure is a strip down and clean up of the fulcrum / pivot assembly. Reassemble with a smear of copper grease inside the area where the two parts fit together.

Not usually necessary to buy a new one unless it's very corroded.

Another possibility is that the handbrake cable has been overtightened as a means of adjusting the shoes - not uncommon.

Correct adjustment procedure is to slacken the cable until it is free of tension then adjust the shoes through the access holes in the disc hub.

Wind the adjusters up until the hub is locked then back off a couple of notches until free, then you can adjust the slack out of the cable.
