The world has gone mad. Waitrose is selling gender neutral Mother's Day cards. They are avoiding the M word in order to make the cards more 'transgender inclusive'. Some of the cards say ' Happy You Day'.
Where's me tin hat? I've had enough.
-
It's all a load of 'dangle berries'.
-
That is a fail.
You can't say tin hat for fear of offending other metal hats. The aluminium and steel tin hats are still reeling from Trump tax.
-
Waitrose . . . . . . . . ? ???
Thats a bit posh for you isn't it ? :-X :-X
-
Hmm, right well thats F@cked Up Fathers Day then.

I feel I want to comment on this . . .but for the moment . . . I had better take a deep breath & gather my thoughts . . as the first word I post will more than likely be offending someone :o :o

So if you set out to offend someone but they don't take offence can you then be offended because they're not? ;D

Nearest medium sized supermarket to me is a Waitrose and I've never been in there, where I think it appeals to middle class rug munchers and uphill gardeners with more money than sense, so that kind of figures. I will stick to my local Aldi, Lidl and occasionally Tesco as they are all much more family orientated.

Firstly, I'm not a Supermarket expert.
But I've found Waitrose not really to be any more expensive than Tesco on most things (though own brand stuff is probably a bit more than Tesco Value shite).
We don't have the budget options here - for a weekly shop type supermarket, its Tesco or Waitrose. Coop, Budgens etc are just corner shops here.

It's all getting very surreal now.A pig farmer from Essex is wanting the terms "eating like a pig" and "pigging out" banned as they're offensive to pigs :o :o :o

Mothering Sunday was originally for people to return to their Mother church for a service, ie the one where they grew up with and were christened/baptised in. As most people moved away for work even a couple of hundred years ago.
The fact that it has now been completely construed to something else means that all other changes and objections to them are mute, including those on gender. If you are going to preach on the sanctity of an event or holiday then stay absolutely true to it's meaning rather than its polluted version.
I also have the same feelings on using the religious argument against equal rights for those with less than conventional sexualities. If you are going to use the book to argue one point, then you should stay true to all of its teachings and rules. Have a read of Leviticus and Timothy and think again about how rigid we should hold ourselves to it.

All very right and true Guffer! :y :y
I would also add that Mothering Sunday, in the modern form, let alone all the other events of the calendar that encourage the sending of cards etc, are nothing more than 'commercial opportunities', that I was once part, of to generate additional profits for your retail company. Halloween for instance I saw over 20 years go from nothing to a major commercial event, which certainly helped me achieve greater bonuses!!
The general public are completely taken by these events, regardless of gender, or no gender, as it makes them feel good and it is the social norm. If people who are religious truly followed, say Christian, teachings they would give the money they spend on cards and trinkets to charity. But we are all human and for many of us, including me, the temptations to enjoy the 'events' are just too great! :D ;)

Social norm is the key phrase in all of that. Within not much more than a decade, we have had many of our social norms outlawed, trampled on, thrown in the bin by people who are apparently more intelligent, sophisticated and progressive than the rest of us plebs.
Us plebs wonder why. What is he agenda. Where do they intend to take us as a society ?
It was fine in the beginning. Making it unacceptable to say or do things against people because they weren't white was great. Stopping people from going out at the weekend to look for gays to bash was a fantastic idea too.
But now, it seems as though it has become a runaway train which cant be stopped. They are queuing up waiting to take offence at anything that they didn't invent or think of.
If they haven't thought it up, discussed it and sanctioned it for the rest of us, then it must be a bad thing and done away with.
Where will it end ? What will they do when they have completely got rid of family, gender, Christianity, western civilisation, heterosexuality.......?
And if they really want progress on the rights of women, gays etc. why do they never criticise Islam ?
Confused ? Me too. :D

You can't say that. Putting ess on the end is sexist. Gender neutral is the name of the game.
