A good result and hopefully the police officers "chat" included checking the guys licence, MOT, insurance, and the state of repair or not of his van along with trailer.

The result of that would be interesting to know as someone with such contempt for safety so often is breaking other road traffic laws ;)

It just makes it worth it for all those times you see the guy overtaking on a B road toward a lorry with 1 second to spare, the transit with lengths of jagged metal hanging over the back inches from every car it passes, the black BMW with four 'gentlemen' inside and no numberplates doing 50 in a 20.... nice result  :)

One of those moments also you're glad you keep your motor in good legal (if not good cosmetic) condition, I know no copper could find fault with her tyre depth, tax, etc.  :)

surprising trailers and caravans don't part company with the tower more often
I see loads with no brake away cable, smashed up lights,no reg plate or a half arsed homemade bodge .
I don't tow often ,but when I do, I make sure everything is safe
likewise ,securing a load on a roofrack etc

I was thinking the other day ,how much debris is on the roads now  :(
That's the stuff that's dropped off omegas.

 :D ;D
I wish it was
I could top up my spare parts collection  :P

BAh! Got there before me!  ;D

Miss DBG had cause to perform an emergency stop today, as the van and trailer ahead of her suddenly parted company. The thing wasn't attached properly. She opens the window as bloke walks over to the trailer asks "are you alright?" to which she gets a fairly nasty "yeh, why woulnd't I be?"  :o 'well, because your trailer just very nearly caused an accident' would be the answer.
The thing was clearly overloaded, the bloke has zero concept or remorse for what had transpired. As my Missus is still sat there with hazards on, as this mess is cleared up what's going the other way?...

...a PANDA CAR! Which promptly spins round, and ask Miss DBG what's happening. She relays the tale, of a poorly secured load, overloaded trailer, the need for an emergency stop - clocks her uniform (nurse) and learns that had there been an accident that's a written off car, not to mention a dozen elderly and vunerable people which wouldn't be seen today in the community (potential for missed medication/early warning signs of underlying health issues etc missed and so on) and the guy's attitude was also noted. Mr Plod took a dim view of this, and went for a nice wee chat with the van driver...

Not often we see a bit of justice in the universe, but ruddy nice when it does happen!  :y

thanks yeh love the car been part of the family for 14 yrs towed horse box with it years ago and been used daily last 14 years so angry with the way garages don't want to work on omegas  so pleased I came on here such friendly helpful people on here

I don't think any of us even look in the Haynes manual very much at all, so much info is on here, and so readily the info is offered. 99% someone else has had the same problem, and a fix has been found. Hoping we get to the bottom of this soon - how 'handy' do you feel about working on cars?

The string of puns in the comments section is like a masterclass in comedy. Makes me proud to be British!

I'd second that. The 'box is a 'sealed for life' unit, and only recommends fluid change if a certain number of miles is exceeded in the first year or whatever of driving. That was a looong time ago now! So of course a full fluid change would be the ideal, however at 75k yours is the condition of gearbox many on here would love to get their hands on!

My car's done 209k now, and didn't get it's (partial) fluid change until about 190k, car ran a touch better but wasn't 'bad' even before the change.

Changing the oil at 75k is preventative maintenance, be it full or 'partial'.

Sorry I don't have any info for you , OP, sadly but as said above, the 2.2 was used on plenty of Vauxhalls - so not even a 'tricky' lump that some most garages wouldn't want the aggro of working on. It most definitely is worth saving, though, that's for sure!

Without sending you down a blind alley - I would add that just because the fault codes are showing emissions doesn't necessarily stand that is the problem, yes, there are emissions issues, but there could be other things, like lazy fuel pumps (had that this week  ::)). But ignore what I say for now, DG / TBB's info should be looked at first!  :y ;D

Welcome to the forum, by the way!

Easy. Drain the screenwash bottle and see if he'll let it squeeze through on an advisory as 'whoops, must've forgotten to fill up the washer bottle, mate'  ;)

Same 'ere, though it was me that had to do it, (at approx 180k, now on 209k) it was when they had genuine Wahler ones on ebay with the little GM half-ground off. A few people bought them off here as I remember.

Yup. I do keep an eye on it, (and has been sealed with bathroom sealant) but as we know, things change. Will have a look tonight check it's not soaked up some.

just occurred to me we park half on the pavement, so at an angle, and last night we happened to be facing the other way. ( we never face this way, but I wanted to check the recently swapped idler arm's nuts were torqued correctly)- meaning any water would run the opposite direction to usual. Will investigate when she's home...and the missus.  :y

Further to tha saga...

Miss DBG starts up for work today, lumpy as owt - cats rattling like a good un (7month old and kaput  >:( - new replacement arrived yesterday) off she goes,

She rings me on route, and lumpy on acceleration, doesn't seem to want to go over 2.5k, no power. Sounds like engine in a tizzy, and gone into limp home mode. Tried to get her to switch off and on, but no opportunity to. Maintaining speed seemed smooth, when stationary in D=lumpy, in P=smooth  ??? after 20 mins or so, seems to have straightened out, running lovely.

it was damp this morning - Dis pack?
bit of gunk in the recently very disturbed fuel lines stuck in an injector, which the redex and Tesco Utimatum has dissolved.
chunk of cat blocking the exhaust, causing backpressure nastiness.

let's hope say it'll never happen again, but what do we think?

Bosch pump fitted, swirl pot cleaned out, a fair amount of grit in there, car running well. bottle of ye olde redex chucked in for good measure. 24 hours and still running well, so fingers crossed that's it for now...

again, thanks gents for all the input.

224
Now, now, no need to shoot him down in flames.

Pump fitted, purring like a kitten! Managed to source a Bosch one, made in the same Czech factory as the original, so should win this year's concourse prize at Billing   ::)  (you know, if they're willing to overlook small details like the physical condition of the rest of the car  :D)

Yeah... Miss DBG keeps offering me a box of matches to help me see in the gloom of the boot

 :D ;D :D
