Also if it's an AR35 Auto gearbox. Had mine done 3 years ago, and is a well worth while improvement. However, I have an AR25 box, which should not have lasted this long with the increased torque, so I will shortly be replacing it with an AR35. :y

I dont think you will find anyone on here recommend radweld or Barrs leak, i agree that the engine bay should be clean as when you do get a leak it will be easier to find and you dont get covered in crap doing the routine maintenance.
Again please confirm that you are not having to add small amounts of antifreeze every now and again, if you are then we maybe more able to advise you. I have seen in the past radiator hoses with the tinyest pin hole in them and when checked show no signs of problems but under full operating conditions they weep slightly and the water is evaporated by the considerable under bonnet temps the v6 produces.
More thing to considr i know but dont rule out anything yet as these fine beasts do tend to suprise us now and again. ::)

A previously owned XJ6 had a Service requirement to add Barrs Leaks at regular service intervals!!! :-/

Serek on this forum has an AR35 autobox for sale cheap, don't know whether it is compatible. I have an AR25 in my 2.5td and will be changing shortly to an AR35. I am told you just require the bell housing and TC from the 25 to fit the 35.

Good Luck :y

Thanks again Charlie, I had eventually discovered that the tensioner sneakily had a cap on it, so have now got everything off, bar the pump pulley. However, I have a neat small puller which will do the job tomorrow.

I don't suppose that you have any torque loadings for any of the bolts involved? Always a problem without a manual. (B****r John Haynes) When I bought my car nearly new, the manual was listed as being printed that year. Then they cancelled it. Grrrrr! :y :y :y

Omega General Help / A different question, HELP!
« on: 17 January 2010, 15:37:40 »
'99 2.5td.  I can see the tensioner to be adjusted/relaxed for the water pump removal, but the front belt does not appear to have a tensioner, just an idler below the LH (from front) belt driven unit (AC compressor?). Does this idler have to come off/be adjusted?

I am reluctant to take the belt off without knowing how it is tensioned/adjusted if required. But I would like to replace it along with the main belt and water pump.

Help please guys.  :-/

Perhaps that guide has been removed by Mods for some reason.

Omega General Help / 1999 2.5td Drive belts
« on: 17 January 2010, 13:46:46 »
Hi guys, just changing my drive belts and water pump. Bionic & Charlie  posted in threads that there is a maintenance guide to what needs to be slackened etc. Could somebody post the link to it please. I always have difficulty using the search facility, and cannot find this after 45mins searching.

TIA

PS Charlie also said that ALI had posted pics but again I can't find it. What am I doing wrong with the 'SEARCH'? :-?

Omega General Help / Re: Strange smells and readings

Morning all, I hope someone can help.
I have just driven home from work and noticed a strange smell inside the car, it smelt a little bit like hot dirty water (don't hold me to that though) and around 5 mins later my battery light came on, the power steering failed and the temp gauge was at the top on the red.
I limped home and upon checking under the bonnet the engine wasn't over hot...
I have no idea what has happened, hopefully the wealth of knowledge on here may prove helpful.
The battery is only 4 weeks old and is the correct one... The car has anti-freeze in it... oil level ok... auto choke working fine... heater working fine. The car is a 3ltr elite (facelift) auto. Hopefully these symptoms may ring a bell and come up with some suggestions.
Thanks in advance  :(

Hope this wasn't for too long. :-?

Had this intermittently on my 2.5td for about a year now. Cleared it by emptying reservoir and cleaning it out, as someone suggested rust particles. Was OK for about 6 months then started again. If you decide to try this, no need to drain whole system, just clamp pipes before disconnecting. I shall probably change the tank eventually. :y
