Title: Next Hampshire meet?
Post by: Gaffers on 10 October 2012, 11:19:17
As already stated on another thread I am back next week after 6.5 months away.  It also looks like that next summer I will lose access to the workshop facilities I enjoy on a regular basis.

When are people up for the (possibly) final Hampshire cambelt meet?  November is completely out of the frame and December is party season.  What does everyone think of Jan/feb?

Yes, I'm up for it. Away for a weekend in the latter half of February. Can't remember the date currently, though. :-[

What do you mean "try" and why not?

I'm up for it :y Again, if time allows. Not sure what state I will be in as I'm finally seeing the consultant on the 25th to see if he can do any more :y

By 'try' I meant make sure that there's enough beer to last, be it home brew or otherwise ::)

As for 'why not',  we (I) might then make be able to make breakfast instead of lunch  :-[

RIght, it seems there is a little  ::) interest in another meet.  Bare in mind it is a little smaller thus I will probably have to limit numbers.

I'll get on it as soon as I get back and I am settled.  Watch this space. :y

Stick me down too General ..... Jan/Feb 2013 sounds good to me! :y

Might be an opportunity to fit the Powerflex A/R bar bushes that've been sat on my workshop bench for ..... er ..... quite a while now! :-[
I'm sure that Shackeng'll be quite interested in watching the proceedings too! ;)

I certainly will Seth, thanks for pointing me this way. Only trouble is, which one do I bring? the 3.2 for an ATF change, or the TD for a gearbox swap? Are there likely to be enough suckers strong helpers to assist in swapping my AR25 for an AR35? (Which sits in the corner of my garage and looks at me accusingly every time I pass it!) If so count me in. :y

Absolutely, the ramp in the new place is perfect for gearbox changes.  Lots of space underneath even when fully down and lots of room on top to move the car fwd and back :y

What were you playing at?

Sassanach and I had one out, dismantled, investigated, and a replacement put in in 2 hours ;D

But, then, I think he's done it before. Several times ;D

And more recently, Sassanach and I had one out, new thrust washer fitted, and popped back in in about 90 mins.

The guy is a monster with these autoboxes :y

Sounds as though enough willing helpers will be there, should I get a new thrust washer as a precaution? The box to go in has done about 11k since overhaul. :-\

Defo improved, but just had the intermittent whiff after stopping....  ....althogh I might be being a bit parnoid/oversensitive about it now, might be thinking I can smell it.

That said, I thought it was leaking on the way home tonight, but turns out it was my fleece that got a good dosing when I filled it ;D

Might need a leak check too. Although judging by the white sh1t around the oil cooler connections I suspect I know what it is and I'm just in denial. ::)

Not quite but equally as good.  It has:

- ramp
- pit long enough for 2
- space for upto 4 more under cover
- weather permitting, a lot of space outside.

You don't mention the bar we drank dry or the copious quantities of food we consumed, or the rather splendid (and cheap) accomodation that brought back many memories.... ... are such facilities also available ??  :)  :)

If we have to slum it int Travelodge, there's a king great big Tescos not too far from there so the self stoked bar should be a bit more robust ;D

Although in fairnesd the chap serving the drinks at 2am did have to get up at stupid o'clock to put the kettle on and cook our breakfast :y which was nice of him...

The Tesco store isn't that big, but we do now have a Morrisons with a cafeteria that is less than a 60 second walk from the Travelodge.

A 60 second walk in the opposite direction leads you to a bar called the "Word Of Mouth" where it's £1.99 per pint, and if you like a pub that does lock in's and lets you smoke at the bar we also have one of them that is less than a 5 minute taxi ride.

I'm really hoping to make this but it will depend on a few things... I have got my appointment today for Day Surgery treatment on my back (again) on the 29th January so that will probably rule me out for the first weekend in Feb (and from doing any real work the following week too) and SWMBO is away at the end of the month so I can't really come down then as someone needs to look after the hound :y

So, fingers crossed for a weekend that fits ::)

Do we have a work list yet?

Two outstanding things on 3.2 I'd really like to fix, which require people with far more skills than I have  ::)

Just to update on this one.  I cannot get permission to use the workshop for a meet.  I can use it but the new chap in charge is not happy for a bunch of civies (his words) that he doesn't know.  It's a shame but it is his facility and thus his call.

I am still on the lookout for other places we could use.  The last place we used is empty but we are not allowed to use that one either :(
