Key Programming
« on: 22 April 2011, 22:27:20 »

Finally got around to buying a new horseshoe key and 3 button fob for my Omega.

I am now ready to have the key programmed and the firmware update in the slushbox and climate control.

The question is: do I take a chance and entrust the job to the local main dealer? my preference would be to meet up with an OOF expert to have the job done properly but I think the nearest to me is Kevin Wood (and he's a long way from Cornwall).

If distance is a problem you haven`t got much of a choice. Dealer will do it just depends what he`s going have you over for

I do drive up to London fairly often. The distance isn't a problem,  getting myself organised might be ::)

If you're almost passing, Kevin Wood would be my choice over a dealer :y

Not sure if I'm getting down to Cornwall this year

No, unfortunately  :( I bought the car with only one key.

The key I have is suffering now. I fitted a new rubber case (from ebay) which makes it look better but the boot release is a bit temperamental.

I have bought some new SMD switches from Farnell which I will fit myself (but not before the new key has been programmed).

I have sent Kevin Wood a PM (and had a reply). I don't know yet when I might be able to arrange a visit.

Hopefully soon because the gearbox and climate control can be very irritating.......

Before I found this forum, I paid £45 to Toomey Vx, for half hour labour to program the 2nd key.

Won't make that mistake again  >:( :(

I still haven't fitted my key fob switches ::)

Just in case I never find them again the switches I bought were Farnell part no 186-7993
