General Discussion Area / in the post office
« on: 01 June 2010, 18:18:50 »
So ...... there I was stood in the local Post Office with a newly printed off MOT certificate & reminder in hand waiting to tax SWMBO's Smart. There was a bloke in front of me at the counter doing the same and then a 40something woman came in behind. As I stepped forward to the counter when the bloke in front had finnished, the woman behind me stepped up the side of me & said ..... 'can I be rude, I only want some cash, can I go next?' (how does that work anyway?  :-/) My reply was ..... 'I only want to tax my car  ::) You'd have thought I'd have told her to f*** off! She then stood & called me rotten  ;D ;D As I said then said to her, she was right about being rude & the usual routine was to wait your turn.
When I had my tax disc, I said to her .... 'right then, next please!'  :y  :y  :y  :y
How did she think it was OK to ask to push in, or that her time was more precious than mine  :-/ - I might have been on my dinner hour for all she knew, she might have been cos she was wearing her M&S joacket

General Discussion Area / Crime pays
« on: 21 March 2010, 17:09:24 »
About a year & a half ago, a neighbour's son was convicted of his part in a £4milion fraud, something to do with passing on bank customer details to a 3rd party. He's in a local open prison. He's due to be allowed out, but has decided that he'll stay in till the end of term so he can complete his university degree!!! :-?  :-?  :-? Just goes to shows how hard prison life is. You & me have fed & watered him, paid for his education, & I'm sure he lived the life of Riley while the going was good before he was caught.
Meanwhile, life on the other side of prison bars, my daughter, along with thousands of others, will leave university with a debt of £1000's
Makes you wonder whether living life on the correct side of the law really does pay.  >:(  >:(  >:(

Presumably there's no interlock between the brake pedal & gear selector like our auto Omegas & other newer cars. Seems he had a very lucky escape.  :y

General Discussion Area / a question for 'emergency' services
« on: 21 February 2010, 16:29:43 »
A calin made by Tyron is that these bands must be good, cos the emergency services use them. http://www.caravan-advice.co.uk/tyron-bands.html Any current or retired members able to back up this claim. Personaly I think they're just very well marketed hype.

General Discussion Area / who's a mobile phone guru?
« on: 01 December 2009, 19:12:11 »
My (retired) Mum works in a charity shop. Please bear with me!  ;D  ;D  ;D They get all sorts of cr4p go through the door, but they got a mobile phone in that my Mum took a fancy to ... Vodafone VK570 like this so she bought it for a few quid, paid £10 on the market for it to be unlocked from Vodafone & she was a happy Mum  ;D ...... for a couple of days  :-?. My lad (he's 21) then decided to help & update the directory etc & other settings!
So ... one of the settings on any phone is a keypad lock. Why he needed to lock the key pad on a flip phone is anyone's guess .... but he did.  :-? he then discovered that the previous owner had set a password/code on the keypad lock ...... :-? :-?
So my Mum now has a phone that she can't unlock the keypad of, because obviously we don't know the code the previous owner had put in!  :(

Anyone any ideas other than use as a paper weight?  ::) ::)

General Discussion Area / Nokia 'sat-nav'
« on: 16 November 2009, 16:59:52 »
While browsing through my new mmobile phone (Nokia 6303) I found Nokia maps :-?. Forgive me for being a numpty  ::) .... I've only ever used a phone for phone calls & a few texts .... but, am I right in thinking that if I had something like this to 'talk' to my phone, then I'd have a sat-nav of sorts?  :-/  :-/

TIA
