Hypothetical Vectra C question...
« on: 01 October 2014, 11:38:07 »

How much work would be involved swapping a 3.2 lump with manual box from an '03 car into a facelift '55 plate petrol :-\

The 3.2 has done about 130k, the 1.8 just over 200k...

Thinking that unbolting the subframes and swapping them over complete is easy enough, then swap the gear lever and cables over.... The thought being that the mechanical side of things is pretty straightforward. The issues being electrical...

Would have both vehicles complete so swapping any looms/bcms over as required ought to be easy enough...

Or would it be a total waste of time :-\

Only things that spring to mind is that the 03 plate may be partial CAN and the 55 plate will be full CAN, also the brakes for the 3.2 version may be slightly more beefy...

Thinking that the entire front end would swap over... Struts/driveshafts/hubs/rack :-\
Rear end needs new shocks and possibly springs anyways... Discs and pads would be renewed using either 3.2 or VXR items.

Found out today that the 1.8 has potential unknown issues and can get a complete working manual 3.2 for peanuts... Hence the question :y

Wrt the Can issue, the newer car is only an Exclusive, so very few toys... No trip computer/CD30, basic aircon... So not sure if that helps or not :-\ but would have thought that the engine side of things would be a question of swapping the dash connections around at the engine ecu...

As ever, happy to be educated on this point :y

Check the wiring diagrams as you may find that the engine loom is plug and play into the body loom

There was someone a couple of years ago looking to swap the 1.8 in a half CAN car to the 2ltr turbo which was only ever available in the full CAN version and it turned out to be far too costly, too many bits to swap about.

As the 3.2 was never available in full CAN cars its not likely to be easy, spec of the cars doesn't matter all the bits are individually 'coded' and there is alot of them! CIM, REC, UEC etc etc

The good news is the V6 will be on 308 or 314mm front and 292 rear brakes and they are easy to swap over!! :-)

Easier swap would be a ZNEx V6 engine into the 1.8 if you know of a back ended one?

Although with those miles and the spec of the car as the 55 is a facelift then you would be better swapping over the wings lights and bonnet to end up with a facelifted 3.2 which I'm guessing is partly the point to this? It is just a Saturday morning small spanner set job :-)
