Petrol Prices rising
« on: 17 April 2019, 22:49:36 »

Noticed today local BP is 1.329 for the normal stuff, Shell is 1.299, was only around 1.21 a few days back, what going on?

Not that I can complain as still only paying 54p for LPG. Will need to put some proper stuff in soon though.

It has gone up here in Spain too but not as much as your rise.

Is it to do with Sterling exchange rate going down because May failed to carry out Brexit and instead kicked the can down the road till Oct 27th?

Just a further thought. It is all kicking off in Libya again. The world doesn't know which side to back even though there is an official and UN represented government

Civil war in Libya with France trying an oil power grab with Libyan Terrorist & RU Putin forces & official UN backed government backed by Italy saving not in our back yard to France. Silly me, I thought the EU was there to prevent wars. ::) ::) ::)

Secondly, the US sanction on Iran has been extensively broken using the Suez canal & the US has now successfully put pressure on Egypt to stop them using it, which has knocked about 1bn barrels a month off global supplies.

Yes Opti, and 6/8d when I started to fill my own tank in 1970 :y

Then, with the 1973+ energy crisis our nightmares came true:

1974    10/-      per gallon or in new money by then 49.60p
1975    15/-        "      "     "    "   "      "      "      "    75p
1976    15/5d      "      "     "    "   "     "       "      "    77p

I love showing the old money in such comparisons as it still means more to me now and really shows how inflation, etc, has taken hold of fuel prices. :o :o

.

In 1974 petrol per gallon was about 2.5 percent of my income it is far less than that now, admittedly I was s poorly paid shopworker back then.
