Title: keyless steering lock

My daughter came back from holiday to a flat battery on her 61 plate Yaris. Her car was parked up their drive so couldn't get a car alongside to jump it so we rolled it backwards to get it close enough to my car. However the steering lock came on, fortunately, the steering was straight enough to get the car to where we wanted it but it did make me think what would we have done if the steering was locked and we couldn't have simply pushed the car in a straight-ish line.
Would the only answer have been to take AN Other battery to the car?

Ta. So we just live in hope that we can always just start our cars .... the electronic ignition switch on my Merc isn't going to much different nor it's electric transmission selector.  :-\

I was at Mercedes the other week as a recovery firm was putting their remote dolly into the back of his curtain sided wagon. It was a dolly that could lift & move a car from car parks etc to a garage/dealer for repair. Apparently it was a French design & cost £35k but was great for recovering vehicles with electric parking brake problems/etc from multi-story carparks where they couldn't gt their flat beds to the car.

I should have taken a photo.  :-[

My Vw is same,no leccy means no steering or getting box out of park easily :-\

Stuff never goes wrong, so a manual release isn't necessary. Which is utter crap such a German way to think.

Proper Mercs have a mechanical cable between the brake pedal/ignition and the shift lever :y

None of that rubbish electrical gubbins than requires a complicated over ride mechanism  ;D

At least they came to their senses re SBC fly by wire brakes  ;)
