Has anyone successfully replaced the oem head unit on a BOSE system?
I have read the post warning about this.
I ask because my son gave me a Pioneer App radio for Christmas. I'm looking around trying to establish compatibility, and to find steering controls adapters. 
Any help steering me in the right direction is appreciated.

You need to effectively bypass the Bose system iirc... there's a whole load of info in the Maintenance section, click on index and scroll down

As for the steering wheel controls, Autoleads do a patch lead for that very purpose, along with facia panels in a variety of colours

What does "iirc" mean?
There is a LOT of info in the maintenance section, I just can't easily tell how much of it is relevant to me.
In particular "bose speakers are a 2 ohm impedance". Would these be driven by the bose amplifier? Or the ccrt700 head unit?

If I Remember Correctly 

Basically you'll need non  Bose speakers and will need to remove the Bose related wiring, replacing it with looms from a non Bose car. It might be that the Bose loom is a plug and play swap for the standard looms, but never having had a Bose fitted car I don't honestly know. Dave DNDs Bose guide is pretty clear though

You might find someone who is looking for a complete Bose system who would be prepared to swap with you... simply pop a wanted ad in the Test Zone and ask someone to move it to the Parts wanted section

ive had to replace all the speakers in my elite in order to put a non bose head unit in....if not there is a chance you will blow the head unit.....

You need 4 standard speakers (go for decent ones), and a CD loom from a PFL or MFL non-Elite - this will bypass the bose amp.

Additionally you need the electrical adapters, if available, for steering wheel controls and MID

I'm about the stick a Pioneer App radio in my bose fitted car this weekend.

My first attempt, I will be fitting some 2 ohm resistors inline to allow the stereo to accept the lower speaker resistance. Eventually, I'm planning a 6 channel amplifier upgrade sometime after.

Don't suppose anyone's fitted a Pioneer app radio with steering control adaptor? I'm looking to find someone with one so I can scope the signal and create my own interface (for a fraction of the cost) and then share my findings with others (not found anything yet Googling). Doesn't have to be in a Vauxhall.

After the stereo, the GID is next to be replaced.. :-)

A lot of the more modern head units are stable into a 2 ohm load so check the head units specifications

You'll still need a 'loopback' connector to plug into the kickpanel connector to bypass the Bose Amp.

Not this one.. 4 ohms - 8 ohms

Not sure where you are getting that info from?

Pioneer had a play with 2 Ohm stability on sub out only around 1999~2002 - Dismal failure and dropped

USA Models "were" 8 Ohms, but they have pretty much disappeared in favour of Euro 4 Ohm ones.


Its only when you hit a specific system package from the likes of BOSE etc that they then play around with different impedances, 2 Ohms on old Vauxhalls, 3 Ohms Mazda, 6 Ohms Honda etc etc and NONE of these systems play well with aftermarket head units without a fair degree of messing about. The BOSE Guide was written for a reason

No sound as yet, will have that sorted tomorrow (as a temporary solution anyway).

No steering remote control yet (gona buy a pioneer IR remote and check if the protocol is the same).

Also need to get a 3d printed surround to fit.

Hey, I have changed the head unit without problems. Only thing was that frequency adjusting doesn't work like in Bose because when you adjust freqs in bose it changes it adjusts right speakers. When with aftermarket head unit it adjusts every speaker and the quality suffers.
