rear screen heater failed fuse 34 OK
« on: 17 January 2015, 08:43:13 »

2000 2.5 petrol estate
Rear screen heater not working, though 40A fuse 34 is OK. Also satnav plugged into rear socket not working, though neon in cable glows. Satnav works Ok in 3.2 saloon.

Do the heated mirrors still work? They're on the same circuit... if not, suspect the relay :y Is the screen heater a sudden total failure or has it gradually gotten worse over time?

Does the sat nav work if plugged into the front lighter socket? Though if the light in the plug illuminates then it is receiving power, pointing to a plug issue on the unit or its cable...

Heated mirrors work, get quite hot; rear screen stone cold after 10 minutes being on. Fault is sudden. Guess it's a connection failure somewhere. Satnav now works OK on both sockets; don't know what happened there. There are two cables in corrugated rubber 'hoses' going into the tailgate, but where the connectors are goodness knows. Any idea?

Tailgate loom is the lefthand one iirc, plugs are either just above the boot headlining or up the D pillar from the light cluster, but about six years since I changed a tailgate :-[

I can check definitively when I get home, but be about 4 am...

Peel the gaiter back if you can and look for obvious breaks :y

Thanks Al. There is no hurry. All Omegas are running well, Meriva too. Just the Rover is in bits, and I suspect beyond economic repair.
